Announcements (Thursday, 6 December 2018)

1) SJBA is organising the 12th Annual Educare Program in SJBA in aid of needy students, providing them with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 needy students will receive the school items on 9 December 2018 (9am). Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life.
This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of our members and devotees. If you wish to sponsor one or more students, please contact Sis. Lily 03-56348181, 56315299.
The Educare Program will be held in SJBA Shrine Hall. Hence the Sunday Puja will be off.

2) SJBA is organising the auspicious 28 Buddhas Puja beginning with an Inauguration Puja on 15 December 2018, 8.00pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall and the Grand 28 Buddhas Puja Ceremony on 1 January 2019, 6.15pm to 10.00pm.

From 16 December to 31 December 2018, there will be daily chanting during the weekdays’ morning from 8.00am to 11.00am and in the evening from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

On Sundays, morning chanting will be from 8.00am to 9.30am and evening chanting from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

3) SJBA is organizing a 10-day Vipassana Meditation Retreat from 3 to 12 January 2019. The Retreat will be conducted by Sayadaw U Sobhita. Sayadaw U Sobhita is a highly respected meditation teacher at the renowned Chanmyay Meditation Centre, Yangon, Myanmar. He was born in 1951 and was fully ordained as a Bhikkhu by the Most Venerable Sayadawgyi U Janakabhivamsa in 1970. He studied the Dhamma under Sayadaw U Tejavanta, Sayadawgyi U Janakabhivamsa and other famous Sayadaws in Myanmar. In 1983, he practised Vipassana Meditation under the guidance of the late Mahasi Sayadaw. Since then, he has been teaching the Dhamma, especially meditation, to devotees in Myanmar and abroad.
Sayadaw U Sobhita will be assisted by Sayadaw U Pinnyarnanda, the Abbot of Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Pyin Oo Lwin branch, Myanmar.

1) SJBA cordially invites you and Family to this year’s 28 Buddhas Puja Ceremony in SJBA is on Saturday, 3 February 2018, commencing from 7pm to 10pm. Devotees have the opportunity to make offering to the past 28 Buddhas (including our present Gautama Buddha). The ceremony invokes one’s affinity with the infinite virtues of the Buddha which is great blessing. 2) SJBA is organising a public interest talk on “ABC of Panic Disorder – Understanding and Coping with Panic Attacks” on 4 February 2018, Sunday, 2pm to 5pm, in SJBA Meditation Hall. The Speaker, Dr. Phang Cheng Kar is a consultant psychiatrist and mindfulness-based therapist at Sunway Medical Centre. He is the developer of MINDFULGym stress reduction and wellness program. He is the President of the Malaysia Association for Mindfulness Practice & Research and KL Buddhist Mental Health Association.

3) SJBA Youth Section members will be making house calls to bring New Year greetings and songs, Buddhist hymns and good wishes to the hosts and family on 24 February 2018. Those who wish to invite them to your homes on 24 February 2018, may book through Sis. Lily at Tel. 03-56348181.

4) SJBA is organising a Vipassana Meditation Retreat in April, 2018 as follows:

Venue: Chin Swee Temple, Genting

Teacher: SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi.

Date: This Retreat comprises of 2 group concurrently from 14 to 18 Apr (5 days) and 14 to 22 Apr (9 days).

Ven. Nyanaramsi is a highly respected meditation teacher who provides meticulous guidance and advice to all practitioners. This is thus a rare blessing to be guided by such a wise, experienced and patient teacher.

5) All devotees are welcome to our Monday Metta Meditation session at SJBA Meditation Hall from 8.30pm to 9.45pm. This cultivation of metta focus on loving kindness to oneself, loved ones and all other beings. On every 1st Monday, our Resident Monk will be guiding the meditators especially the newcomers.

6) All devotees are welcome to have self-practice in Vipassana Meditation on Thursdays from 8.30pm to 9.45pm at our Meditation Hall.

7) There will be Day Retreat in SJBA during New Moon and Full Moon Days from 9am to 5pm. The Retreat is free and easy and participants can feel free to join in or leave any time. Vegetarian lunch will be provided.

1) SJBA is organising a 28 Buddhas Puja Ceremony this Saturday, 7 January 2017, 7pm to 10pm, which will give everyone the opportunity to make individual offerings to all 28 past Buddha who appeared before (and include) the present Buddha, Gautama Buddha. This great ceremony invokes one’s affinity with the infinite virtues of Buddha’s by reciting and recollecting the 28 Buddha’s names and virtues. This brings great blessings for the people who partake in the Ceremony. Recollection of the Buddha’s virtues help purify one’s mind and may even lead one to the attainment of enlightenment.
Traditionally this 28 Buddha’s Puja is performed to bring longevity, beauty, good health, happiness, prosperity, unity and harmony of family as well as success in one’s career or business and excellence in children’s education. 2) As part of our effort to upgrade the facilities of SJBA Vihara to provide better environment and support services for our members and devotees, in addition to building the new block, the following places will be renovated on the dates as follows:

Please note that TCM, Metta and Vipassana Meditation, Yoga, Longevitology sessions in the respective Hall or rooms or Airwell Area will need to be temporarily closed during the above periods.

3) This Sunday Puja (1/1/17, 9.30am) will be led by Ven. Indarathana followed by a short meditation and Dhamma Talk. Venerable Indarathana was ordained as a novice monk at age 11 in Sri Lanka. After 10 years of monastic education and training at Sri Medankara Bhikku training Center, he received higher ordination as a fully ordained monk in 2007. He holds a Master degree in Buddhism at Kelaniya University and Bachelor degree of Law at University of Colombo. He is currently pursuing his masters of counseling at HELP University, Kuala Lumpur. He has been living in Malaysia since 2012 under the guidance of Chief Reverend Saranankara Maha Thera at Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist temple. As a Buddhist monk, he taught meditation and mindfulness practices and give counselling to people from different walks of life using the Buddha’s teachings

5) This Sunday’ Dhamma Talk (10am) is on “Joy in the World” by Bro. Billy Tan. The Talk is on one’s awakening to the beauty and tranquility of one’s true nature, experiencing the blessings of inner peace and tranquil happiness the middle way.
Bro. Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective.

5) This Sunday Dhamma Talk (11/12/16, 10am) will be given by Bro. Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of SJBA Dhamma Committee. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand.
