Announcements (Sunday, 27 July 2014)

image00141) In conjunction with the 7th Lunar Month, SJBA is organising a Pattidana (Dedication of Merits) Ceremony on 3rd August 2014, Sunday for the departed ones. When those departed relatives and friends, who may been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence, become aware that their departed relatives performing meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can feel relief. If they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth can be transformed into a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform acts of merits for the departed ones. The program will start at 8.00am with the offering of flowers, candles and pure water, followed by Pindacara, chanting, Dhamma Talk, offering of requisites, dedication of merits to the departed ones and followed by Blessings by the Sangha and lunch dana. All are welcome to partake in this Pattidana.

2) SJBA Sunday Dhamma School is organizing a Food & fun Fair on 24/8/14 (Sunday) to raise a target of RM70,000 for SJBA Building Extension Fund as well as to inculcate into the students the Buddhist value of Dana. 3) SJBA is celebrating the country’s 57th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2014 (Sunday), The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2013. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2014. For more information, please call Sis. Lily at tel. 03-56315299. Closing date for submission is 31st July 2014. On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

5) This morning’s (Sunday, 27/7/14, 10am) Dhamma Talk is on “The Happiness Path – Recognising tanha, reducing dukkha and being happy walking the Noble Eightfold Path”. The Talk will be given by Dr. Chan Kah Yein. Sis Kah Yeinholds a Ph.D in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity fund for street animals. She also gives public talks on living a spiritual and simpler life. To date, she has written eight books and her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all for free distribution. Her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

image00141) SJBA is making the invitation to Sayadaw U Rewata and Venerable Dhammapala on 12th July 2014, Saturday, 8.30pm -10.00pm (at our Shrine Hall) to enter Vassa (Rains Retreat) in SJBA. The program will include taking the 3 Refuges and observe the 5 Precepts, formal invitation to the Sanga Members to stay in SJBA for the 3-month Vassa so that we can organise the Kathina, determination by the Sangha, offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha followed by chanting and sharing of merits. Members and devotees are invited to witness this Vassa Entry Ceremony

2) Members and devotees are invited to participate in the 5th Day Vassa Chanting on 16th July 2014, Wednesday, 8.30pm, at SJBA Shrine Hall, to commemorate the day the Buddha taught the Anattalakkhana Sutta to His first 5 disciples of the Buddha who had by listening to this sermon, meditating on the five aggregates of clinging and realizing 3 higher stages of supramundane knowledge that lead them to the attainment of Arahantship.

5) This Sunday’s (13 July 2014, 11.30am) Dhamma Talk (in Mandarin) is on “Meeting With the Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammapala. Ven. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations. . 这个星期日的讲题是与佛法相会, 讲师是法护法师. 法师毕业于斯里兰卡的Kelaniya大学,专注于巴利文和佛教研究。法师也在香港大学获得了博士学位,也在香港大学当过讲师,并呈列了一些论文。他目前是 “Buddhistdoor” 佛门的精神理事。是香港大学, 佛学校友会中心的副主席。也是其他以佛教为基础的组织的理事主任

6) This Sunday (13 July 2014) Dhamma Talk (in English, 10am) will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA. image00141) The Samatha & Vipassana Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop conducted by Ven. Aggacitta Maha Thera will continue this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 5,6 July) in SJBA Shrine Hall. Hence. On this Sundays (6 July 2014), our regular Puja Service (9.30am – 11am) will be held at our Dana Hall.

2) For those who wish to offer Lunch Dana, please note that Ven. Aggacitta food should be preferably steamed, without oil, ginger, garlic nor onions, no pork, corns, cabbage. Rice should be brown or red rice, organic. Lunch dana for the workshop participants are also welcome. Dana in the form of services to help prepare and offer the lunch as well as cleaning are also most welcome.

6) This Sunday (6 July 2014) morning’s Chanting and Meditation will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

a Dhamma Committee Member of SJBA.

image00141) SJBA will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 22nd June 2014 at 9.30am (not on 15th June as announced in our Newsletter as SJBA received ROS’s approval on the amendment of its Rules and Regulations only on 27 May 2014). The Agenda include receiving and adopting the Executive Committee’s Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts, Election of a new Executive Committee and deliberation of other matters as deemed fit by the Assembly. You are cordially invited to join us.

2) This morning’s (8/6/14) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Viriya” by Sis Lim Chye Hong. Sis Lim Chye Hong is a member of the SJBA Dhamma Committee. She helps regularly in meditation retreats. She has been a Secondary School teacher for over 20 years. 今天 (8/6/14, 11.30am) 的讲题是”精进”, 讲师是彩虹居士. 自2002年以来,彩虹居士是我们首邦再也佛教会 佛法委会小组成员。一直以来,本会 所举办的禅修营,她都在出力帮忙, 负责厨房和修禅者所需。她也是一位中学老师,已经职教了二十多年。

Nyanaramsi beginning 1 June until 6 Jun 2014, 8.30pm to 10.30pm, followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 6 Jun to 8 Jun 2014. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, Monday, 12th May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign and Free Health Check. 3) The Selangor State Government, with the assistance from the Selangor Buddhist Development Council, is organizing a state-level Wesak Celebration on 17 May 2014, Saturday, 7.00pm to 10.00pm at the Auditorium Dewan Jubli, SUK Shah Alam.
The night will be filled with interesting cultural performances from local as well as from foreign countries like Japan, Thailand, Singapore and Sri Lanka. Light refreshment will be provided. Transport will be provided (for those who need) with 2 buses will be leaving SJBA at 6.15pm. Please register with Sis Lily (03-56348181) for bus transport, first-come, first-serve).

4) This morning’s (11/5/14)in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Ten Meritorious Deeds – Part III” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Curretly, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

Our Speaker, Bro. Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy.
