1) This year’s Wesak day falls on 13th May 2014. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 12th May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign and Free Health Check. We need around 200 volunteer helpers to help organize all these activities. Please register yourselves by writing your name at our Notice Board or call Sis. Lily at Tel. 03-56315299.

2) SJBA is planning a 3-day 2-night Retreat conducted by Ven. Nyanaramsi in Cameron Highlands (Sam Poh Temple, Binchang) from 16 May to 18 May, 2014. The expected cost for the bus transport and food is RM150 per person. The temple allow us to stay for free but we suggest to make individual donations. Please register with Sis Lily at tel. 03-56348181 on a first come first serve basis, up to 40 participants only. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

3) SJBA is organising an Introduction to Meditation Course conducted by Ven. Nyanaramsi from 22 May to 8 Jun 2014, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day, 22 May, is for orientation, followed by 6 lessons) and then followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 6 Jun to 8 Jun 2014. 4) This morning’s (20 April 2014, 11.20am) Mandarin Dhamma Talk is on “Meeting the Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammapala. Ven. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

5) This morning’s (20 April 2014, 10am) Dhamma Talk in English is on “Finding Happiness in an Unhappy World” by Ven Kumara. Ven Kumāra Bhikkhu was ordained in 1999 at the age of 27 by Sayadaw U Revata at Subang Jaya Buddhist Association (SJBA). Presently, he resides in Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary where he studies under the guidance of Ven Aggacitta Bhikkhu and acts as his personal assistant. The venerable graduated with a degree in education from the University of Malaya, which was where he became enthusiastic with the Buddha’s teachings. He was active in the Buddhist society there. During his working life, he also became active in Buddhist Maha Vihara’s Sunday Dhamma School, SJBA and Buddhist Wisdom Centre. Since then, he has often been invited to share the Dhamma in English and Chinese to adults, teenagers and young children. Being a truth-seeker, Ven Kumāra enjoys exploring a wide field of knowledge, including those beyond orthodoxy. Besides learning and practicing the DhammaVinaya, he enjoys spontaneous qigong and helping others to release their sufferings and therefore gain happiness May You Be Well & Happy, Always!

image00141) SJBA is calling an EGM at SJBA Main Shrine Hall on this Sunday, 13 April 2013, 9.30am to revoke some clauses of SJBA’s Rules & Regulations. Please refer to the Notice of EGM or refer to the Notice Board for more information. All members are welcome. The Sunday Puja Service will be a short one before commencement of the EGM.

2) The Mandarin Puja Session will be off this Sunday and will resume next Sunday (20 April, 2014, 11.30am) with a Dhamma Talk on “Meeting the Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammapala. Ven. Kathina1) SJBA is hosting a Musical Show on 16th November 2013 at the KL PAC, Sentul, to raise funds for our building extension. This delightful musical is produced by the famous Asia Musical Productions (the award-winning team of “Siddhartha The Musical” and “Princess Wen Cheng”) featuring some of the best talents in Malaysia’s arts and entertainment scene. Tickets are sold at RM120, RM180, RM250 and RM400. Sponsors of RM5,000 will be given a VVIP seat, a plaque and engraving of their names in the new building’s Donors Board. 2) SJBA is organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 13 September to 18 October 2013. The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. The topic this Friday (27/9/13) is “Is Buddhism Scientific” by Uncle Vijaya. (Note: Topic “Made in Heaven” by Dr Chan Kah Yein on 20/9/13).

3) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 27th October 2013. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2013) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

4) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2013 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He has served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

image00141) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 56th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2013 (Saturday), The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. The occasion will be graced by the Speaker of the Selangor State Assembly, YB Hannah Yeoh. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2012. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2013. For more information, please call Sis. Lily at tel. 03-56315299;

On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

6) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “Windmill of our Mind” by Sis Dr. Chan Kah Yein. Dr Chan Kah Yein holds a Ph.D in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity for stray animals. She also gives public talks on ways to lead a more spiritually fulfilling life. To date, she has written eight books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all, for free distribution. With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

The program will be very interesting and include musical and dance performances by Asia Musical Production, Temple of Fine Arts, FGSM, etc.

3) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “What do Buddha’s awaken to? What do they wake up from?” by Ven. Achalo Bhikkhu (Brett Hansen). Ajahn Achalo was born in Brisbane Australia in 1972. He developed a sincere interest in Buddhist meditation at the age of twenty, and so at the age of 21 travelled to Thailand to study Buddhist religion and practice tradition in detail.

Ajahn Achalo was ordained as a Bhikkhu in July 1997, at Wat Nong Pah Pong, the monastery established by Venerable AjahnChah in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. Luang Por Liam, the Abbot of Wat Nong Pah Pong was his Venerable Preceptor.

For the past seventeen years Ajahn Achalo has lived and practiced in the branch monasteries associated within the lineage of Venerable Ajahn Chah, spending most of this time at Wat Marp Chan, in Rayong Province. He has also lived for periods of time at Abhayagiri monastery in California, USA, Amaravati Monastery in Hertfordshire, UK, and Buddhabodhivana Monastery in Victoria, Australia. His main teachers are Luang Por Liam, Luang Por Sumedho, TanAjahn Passano, Tan Ajahn Anan, Tan Ajahn Jayasaro and Tan Ajahn Kalyano.

Ajahn Achalo is now the Abbot of Wat Anandagiri in Petchabun in Thailand

Nyanaramsi from 26 May to 1 Jun, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day orientation followed by 6 lessons) followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 1 Jun to 4 Jun. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. 3) This morning, we are going to have a Dhamma Dialogue on “How do you see yourself as a Buddhist 10 years from now?” to be facilitated by Sayalay Paramacari. Sayalay Paramacari started practising Vipassana Meditation (Mahasi method) based on the Four Foundation of Mindfulness (Maha Satipatthana Sutta) since April 1994 in MBMC, Penang. She obtained a Diploma in Buddhism awarded by The Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka in 1996 and had had attended retreats of the Mahasi tradition in various places in Malaysia & abroad and also attended & exposed to retreats of other traditions in Malaysia and abroad over the years. 1994 – 2005 lived, cultivated in no less than 25 countries as a layperson before taking on the robes.

Sayalay was ordained in the year 2008 by Sayadaw U Pyin Nyar Nanda of Chanmyay Yeikhta, Myanmar in Pyin Oo Lwin, Upper Myanmar. In July 2012, while in India, took up Pabbaja ordination as a 10 precept with 75 sekhiya rules Samaneri with Ven Bhikkhuni Ratatungoda Saddha Sumana, abbess Sri Tusitaramaya in the district of Ratnapura in Sri Lanka.

Prior to becoming a nun, Sayalay had been attached to BSN, Singapore Airlines, Federal Express & EBSCO. She had also worked as a Freelance Trainer specializing in Social Skills, Performance Development, Situational Leadership, 8 Step Coaching for Leaders of all tiers, Effective Communication Skills, Targeted Selection (to select an honest, sincere & suitable employee for a specified job designation) & Building High Performance Team.

We plan to officially launch our Building Extension Fund this Wesak to build our extension on the 5,000 sq. ft. of land next door, that was recently approved for SJBA. 2) SJBA is organising an Introduction to Meditation Course conducted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi from 26 May to 1 Jun, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day orientation followed by 6 lessons) followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 1 Jun to 4 Jun. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. If you wish to join in the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. 3) Our Mandarin Puja Service will be from 11.30am to 12.30pm today (12th May). Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

4) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “Renunciation” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

1) This year’s Wesak day falls on 24th May 2013. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 23rd May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. 4) This morning, Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata will lead us in chanting and meditation, followed by a Dhamma Talk. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work.
