image00141) SJBA Educare Program in SJBA will be held on this Sunday (6 December 2015) to provide poor students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items on 6 December 2015. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. If you wish to contribute to this Educare Program by sponsoring one more more students, please contact Sis Lily at Tel. 03-56348181.

2) To-date SJBA have received donations of about RM 3.23 million for its Building Extension. The cost of construction of the extension block is RM5 million (not including interior design works). We look forward for more help to raise the balance in order for us to successfully complete the construction of the new building.

3) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 18th to 27th December 2015. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Venerable Sayadaw Pyinnyarnanda and our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to be a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

4) SJBA is organising this New Year Eve with a 8-course Fun & Fund Raising Dinner in JBA Vihara. SJBA brings to you the best from Sekinchan, a sumptuous dinner prepared by the famous Hao Xiang Chi restaurant, Sekinchan at RM800 per table/RM80 per pax. The evening shall start with Puja at 7.00pm. During dinner there will be performances, karaoke competition with prizes and lucky draws.

image00141) SJBA is organising an intensive Introduction to Meditation Course with meditation practice, conducted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi over 2 weekends from 5 to 7 Jun and 12-14 Jun 2015.

Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. For further information, please contact Sis. Lily at 03-56348181

2) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk by Ven Dhammavuddho Mahathera on 27th June 2015, Saturday, 8.30pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. The title of the Talk is “Characteristics of a Sotapanna”.

Venerable Dhammavuddho graduated from the University Malaya in 1971, and worked as an Electrical Engineer with the Public Works Department for 12 years. He was ordained as a monk in the Mahayana tradition in 1983. Three years later, he was re-ordained in the Theravada tradition in Thailand. Thereafter, he spent about 10 years living the solitary lifestyle in quiet places. He has written numerous booklets on Buddhism, e.g. Return to the Original Buddha’s Teachings, Message of the Buddha, Buddhist Monk’s Precepts, Liberation: Relevance of Sutta-Vinaya, Only We Can Help Ourselves, etc. In 1998, he established Vihara Buddha Gotama near Temoh, in Perak. Ven. Dhammavuddho is currently a Monastic Adviser the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia.

3) SJBA’s building extension (a new 4-storey block with basement) has officially commenced works on 8 March 2015. Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. The donors can write their name and sign on the bricks which will be used for the construction of the new block. For further information, please call Sis Lily at 03-56348181.

4) Another Temple Building Extension Fund Raising effort is through “Imee Ooi
Concert – Sound of Wisdom” on 1 August 2015, Saturday, 3.00pm at Istana Budaya.

Sis Imee Ooi of “The Chant of Metta” fame as well as many other highly-praised musical works will be making a live appearance in her debut concert. A teacher, composer, producer, director and singer, Imee is serving the Dhamma with her extraordinary talent and voice. She is a Buddhist practitioner that adheres to the teachings of loving kindness, peace and harmony. Founder of IMM Musicworks in 1997, she has released more than 50 albums and has produced many musical works for many Buddhist societies and organizations. Her mission is in singing messages of peace, harmony and compassion or simply bringing healing sounds to her listeners through music.

Tickets are now available in SJBA (at RM100, RM150, RM200, RM250 and RM350). You can now have the opportunity to support the development of local Buddhist musical talents and performance arts as well as contributing to the building extension of SJBA Vihara.

5) This Sunday (31/5/15, 10am) Dhamma Talk (in English) is given by Ven. Nyanaramsi. The title is “Overcoming Mental Hindrances and Defilements by Mindfulness Meditation.

6) The Sunday Dhamma Talk (11.30am) in Mandarin will be off during the school holidays and will resume on 21 June 2015.

The course will run for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Dr. Chan Kah Yein and Datuk Charlie Chia. All are welcome. No pre-registration is required. On next Friday (27 March 2015), the topic is “Sowing Good Seeds for Lifetimes” by Uncle Vijaya.

4) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on 12 April 2015, 8am to 11am to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

5) Our Puja Session in Mandarin (11.30am-12.30pm) will be off until 19 April 2015.

6) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (22 March, 10.00am) is on “Having Good Friends – Sutta Selection” by Bro Ananda Fong. Bro. Ananda Fong is the former Deputy Principal of the Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School (BISDS) at the Buddhist Maha Vihara (BMV), Brickfields, KL. He is also the ex-Principal of Bandar Utama Buddhist Society (BUBS) Sunday Dhamma School, PJ. and President of BUBS. During his service in BISDS and BUBS, he was the co-organizer and co-facilitator of Dhamma School Teachers Training Programs. He has served as a facilitator/tutor in Dhamma Speakers Training programs, Diploma in Buddhism programs (Buddhist And Pali University (BAPU), Sri Lanka), and Nalanda Institute’s Certificate in Buddhist Studies program. He is currently the Honorary Secretary General of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia. He gives Dhamma Sharings regularly at Buddhist organisations in the Klang Valley.
