image0011.      SJBA’s building extension (a new 4-storey block with basement) officially commenced works on 8 March 2015. Piling work has already been completed and excavation works for the basement are in progress now. The cost of construction of the new building is RM5 million. To-date, we have received donations of about RM 2.88 million (with another RM216,000 in pledges, not collected). We appeal for help to raise the balance in order for us to successfully complete the construction of the new building by June 2016 (contractual completion date).

2.      Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. Sis Imee Ooi of “The Chant of Metta” fame as well as many other highly-praised musical works will be making a live appearance in her debut concert. A teacher, composer, producer, director and singer, Imee is serving the Dhamma with her extraordinary talent and voice. She is a Buddhist practitioner that adheres to the teachings of loving kindness, peace and harmony. Founder of IMM Musicworks in 1997, she has released more than 50 albums and has produced many musical works for many Buddhist societies and organizations. Her mission is in singing messages of peace, harmony and compassion or simply bringing healing sounds to her listeners through music.

You can now have the opportunity to support the development of local Buddhist musical talents and performance arts as well as contributing to the building extension of SJBA Vihara. Tickets are now available in SJBA (at RM100, RM150, RM200, RM250 and RM350).

In conjunction with the 58th Merdeka Day Celebration in SJBA on 31 August 2013 and to encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2014. 5.      This Sunday (5/7/15, 9.45am) Dhamma Talk (in English) will be given by Ven. Sayadaw Nyanapurnik. Sayadaw Nyanapurnik is a Nepalese Monk of Sakyan descent. He is a Pali Scholar and Vipassana teacher, and has been working actively for the progress and development of Theravada Buddhism in Nepal. Ordained at the age of 10, he has studied the Dhamma extensively in Nepal and Myanmar. He received the ‘Sasanadhaja Dhammachariya”, a highly respected order of Buddhist monastic education in Myanmar in 1963. He is currently the Deputy Sanghanayaka of Nepal.

Ven. Dhammavuddho is currently a Monastic Adviser of the Theravāda Buddhist Council of Malaysia.

Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

6. This Sunday’s Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “How to Take Care of Your Wellbeing – based on TCM” by Brother Chong Yuan Foong. Brother Chong Yuan Foong graduated from Hei Long Jiang University of Chinese Medicine, majoring in Acupuncture and Inner Medicine. He is now practicing at RenKang TCM Clinic in Klang and KL Karma Kagju Dharma Society as a volunteer TCM Master.

image00141) The Selangor State Government, with the assistance from the Selangor Buddhist Development Council, is organizing a state-level Wesak Celebration on this Saturday, 9 May 2015, 7.00pm to 10.00pm at the Auditorium Dewan Jubli, SUK Shah Alam. The night will be filled with interesting cultural performances from local as well as from foreign countries like Japan, Korea, and Sri Lanka. Light dinner will be provided.

5) This Sunday (10/5/15) Dhamma Talk (in English, 10am) will be given by Ven. Dhammapala. Ven. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

6) This Sunday’s (10/5/15) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Living Harmoniously” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and currently the Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Sis. Suh Chuen also teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 2 May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Ven. Nyanaramsi, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation.

On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.30pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment for those needing such services.

We need around 200 volunteer helpers to help organize all these activities. Please register yourselves by writing your name at our Notice Board or call Sis. Lily at Tel. 03-56315299.

Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective.

A teacher, composer, producer, director and singer, Imee is serving the Dhamma with her extraordinary talent and voice. She is a Buddhist practitioner that adheres to the teachings of loving kindness, peace and harmony. Founder of IMM Musicworks in 1997, she has released more than 50 albums and has produced many musical works for many Buddhist societies and organizations. Her mission is in singing messages of peace, harmony and compassion or simply bringing healing sounds to her listeners through music.

4) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk “The forests are peaceful, why aren’t you?” by Ven. Dr. Sangharatana Nayaka Maha Thera on 14th April 2015, 8.30pm. Venerable Sangharatana is the Chief Abbot of the Pitaramba Temple in
Bentota, Sri Lanka and the founder of the Bentota Buddhist Social Welfare Institution. Through these organizations, village socio-welfare programs such as English library, free tuition classes, training programs for pre-school teachers and interest free micro credit for cottage industries and entrepreneurship are conducted to uplift the rural community.

Soon after the Tsunami disaster in 2004, he worked for the affected people in Bentota and built a housing scheme for them. Then after he opened one daycare center for the benefit of needy people around there under the name of Paramita.

The Venerable has authored several books. Amongst them are How to See the Living Buddha (poems), Maharashta Buddhist in India and Buddhism – The Thirst Quencher.

5) Our Puja Session in Mandarin (11.30am-12.30pm) will be off until 19 April 2015. 6) This year’s Wesak day falls on 3rd May 2015. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 2nd May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation.

On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha.

On this Wesak Day, everyone has the opportunity to do good deeds of great merits by contributing to build our temple extension.

From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Free Health Check.

image00141) SJBA is organizing the Introduction to Buddhism course from 6 March to 24 April 2015. The course will run for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm, conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Dr. Chan Kah Yein and Datuk Charlie Chia. All are welcome. 2) SJBA’s building extension (a new 4-storey block with basement) has officially commenced works on 8 March 2015. Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. 3) Another Temple Building Extension Fund Raising effort is through “Imee Ooi Concert – Sound of Wisdom” on 1 August 2015, Saturday, 3.00pm at Istana Budaya. 4) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on 12 April 2015, Sunday, 8am to 11am to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

5) SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi will be conducting a Meditation Reteat in Cameron Highland as follows:

SJBA will charter a bus for this retreat. The bus will pick up yogis at SJBA on the 8 May, Friday, leaving SJBA 7.30am SHARP.
Yogis are required to observe the 9 precepts during this Retreat. Those unable to take 9 precepts are to inform the organiser in advance and make own arrangement for light dinner.
A contribution of RM150 per yogi is required to defray the running cost for meals, transportation & donation to the San Poh Temple for the usage of the premise. Individual donation to the temple is also welcome but optional.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (5 April, 10.00am) will be given by Venerable Dhammapala. Venerable. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

6) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (22 March, 10.00am) is on “Having Good Friends – Sutta Selection” by Bro Ananda Fong. Bro. Ananda Fong is the former Deputy Principal of the Buddhist Institute Sunday Dhamma School (BISDS) at the Buddhist Maha Vihara (BMV), Brickfields, KL. He is also the ex-Principal of Bandar Utama Buddhist Society (BUBS) Sunday Dhamma School, PJ. and President of BUBS. During his service in BISDS and BUBS, he was the co-organizer and co-facilitator of Dhamma School Teachers Training Programs. He has served as a facilitator/tutor in Dhamma Speakers Training programs, Diploma in Buddhism programs (Buddhist And Pali University (BAPU), Sri Lanka), and Nalanda Institute’s Certificate in Buddhist Studies program. He is currently the Honorary Secretary General of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia. He gives Dhamma Sharings regularly at Buddhist organisations in the Klang Valley.
