1. The Intermediate Course on Buddhism running for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 6 November 2015. The course covers Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. On this Friday (30 Oct) the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature” by Datuk Charlie Chia. On next Friday (6 November), Datuk Charlie Chia will talk on “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health”. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.

2. This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on 8 November 2015 (Sunday). Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (7 November 2015) with Taking The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3 This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 18th to 27th December 2015. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Venerable Sayadaw Pyinnyarnanda and our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

4 This year SJBA Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 6 December 2015 to provide poor students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items on 6 December 2015. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. 5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (1/11/15, 10am) will be given by Ven. Mahacara who is residing in SJBA for the Vassa (Rains Retreat). During this 3-month period, Venerable Mahacara will be cultivating himself in SJBA Vihara as well as teaching devotees the Dhamma.

6.This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (1/11/15at 11.30am) is on “Wise Effort” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Currently, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

known as Dhammarakkhita, “Protector of the Dhamma”. He still believes in his name and
devotes his life to not only protecting the pure Dhamma but continuously exploring it and sharing it for the benefit of anyone who seeks wisdom, peace and freedom. Jeff’s approach to the teaching is relaxed and practical yet deeply profound and life transforming. He shares useful ways of formal meditation and gives necessary advice for living the practice in daily life. Jeff gives talks, workshops and short and long term retreats. He believes in the power of communication, understanding the Dhamma intellectually through discussion and questions and answers as well as experience through silent and deep introspection into the true nature of existence in this moment, here and now.

5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (4/10/15, 11.30am) is on “Effective Buddhist Attitude at Work” by Bro Tom Hem. Bro Tom is an accredited Chinese physician and acupuncturist focuses on family medicine in Puchong. He is a long serving Dhamma volunteer and a Dhamma speaker with strong interest in Engaging and Applied Buddhism. At present, he is an Exco member of Kinrara Metta Buddhist society.

1. In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, SJBA is organizing a Mooncake Family Night on 26th September 2015 (Saturday). It will be a fun-filled night to celebrate with family. In line with SJBA’s effort in promoting a caring and compassionate community, we have invited children from Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Kurang Upaya (P3KU) to join us in our celebration. The children have provided us with a wish-list. If you wish to fulfil their dream, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181 / 56315299 for the items they have wished for. Please remember to bring your lantern along for the traditional lantern procession round the temple to end the night. DINNER WILL BE SERVED, however we encourage you to bring some desserts to share with everyone. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

3) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. 4) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 14th December 2014. It will be the 8th anniversary of the Program in SJBA. For the last 7 years, we have been providing needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items this year. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of generous Donors. 6) This Sunday’s (19/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk “Lotus like Lay Buddhist” will be given by Mrs Wang. Mrs Wang is a SJBA Exco member and the Principal of SJBA Sunday Dhamma School since 1990. Mrs Wang was previously the Principal of SMK Seafield before her retirement.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Significance of Kathina” by Sis Lim Chye Hong. Sis Lim Chye Hong is a member of the SJBA Dhamma Committee. She helps regularly in meditation retreats. She has been a Secondary School teacher for over 20 years. 这个星期日的讲题是” 卡地那的意义”, 讲师是彩虹居士. 自2002年以来，彩虹居士是我们首邦再也佛教会佛法委会小组成员。一直以来，本会所举办的禅修营，她都在出力帮忙，负责厨房和修禅者所需。她也是一位中学老师，已经职教了二十多年。

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

6) This Sunday’s (12/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk on “Developing Knowledge” will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.
