image00141. The Intermediate Course on Buddhism running for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 6 November 2015. The course covers Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. On this Friday (30 Oct) the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature” by Datuk Charlie Chia. On next Friday (6 November), Datuk Charlie Chia will talk on “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health”. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.

2. This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on 8 November 2015 (Sunday). Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (7 November 2015) with Taking The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3 This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 18th to 27th December 2015. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Venerable Sayadaw Pyinnyarnanda and our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

4 This year SJBA Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 6 December 2015 to provide poor students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items on 6 December 2015. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. If you wish to contribute to this Educare Program, please contact Sis Lily at Tel. 03-56348181.

6.This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (1/11/15at 11.30am) is on “Wise Effort” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Currently, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

He is practicing at RenKang TCM Clinic in Klang and KL Karma Kagju Dharma Society as a volunteer TCM Master.

4. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (4/10/15, 10am) will be given by Bro. Jeff Oliver. Jeff Oliver has been sharing the Dhamma in Malaysia since his first visit in 1995 as a Buddhist monk
known as Dhammarakkhita, “Protector of the Dhamma”. He still believes in his name and
devotes his life to not only protecting the pure Dhamma but continuously exploring it and sharing it for the benefit of anyone who seeks wisdom, peace and freedom. Jeff’s approach to the teaching is relaxed and practical yet deeply profound and life transforming. He shares useful ways of formal meditation and gives necessary advice for living the practice in daily life. Jeff gives talks, workshops and short and long term retreats. He believes in the power of communication, understanding the Dhamma intellectually through discussion and questions and answers as well as experience through silent and deep introspection into the true nature of existence in this moment, here and now.

5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (4/10/15, 11.30am) is on “Effective Buddhist Attitude at Work” by Bro Tom Hem. Bro Tom is an accredited Chinese physician and acupuncturist focuses on family medicine in Puchong. He is a long serving Dhamma volunteer and a Dhamma speaker with strong interest in Engaging and Applied Buddhism. At present, he is an Exco member of Kinrara Metta Buddhist society.

3) There will be a Dhamma Talk on “Maintaining Sanity in a Fast-paced World” by Ven. S. Pemaratana Thero at SJBA Shrine Hall on this Tuesday, 28 October, 8.30pm to 10pm. Ven. Pemaratana is the Chief Abbot of Pittsburgh Buddhist Centre, USA. He received his higher ordination in 1997. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Buddhist Studies from the University of Singapore. He has lectured at the University of Peradenitya as well as the Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore. He conducts meditation workshop at his Centre and provides spiritual counseling to help people deal with challenging issues of life. In 2008, he was awarded the Haruki Award by the Transcultural Society for Clinical Meditation, Japan for his research on Meditation and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

4) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Venerable Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. For the last 7 years, we have been providing needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items this year. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. She helps regularly in meditation retreats. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of generous Donors. 5) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat at SJBA will be from 12th December 2013 to 22nd December 2014. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

6) This Sunday’s (12/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk on “Developing Knowledge” will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Meeting with Uncertainty” by Chew Yee Yean. Sis Chew Yee Yean graduated from UKM. She is now working as a Senior Biochemist at UMMC. 这个星期日的讲题是“如何面对变幻莫测的无常”, 讲师是周怡燕居士. 怡燕居士 毕业于马来西亚国民大学,她现今 在 马大医药中心担任高级生物化学师。在这十年以来,她志愿地帮忙与宣扬佛法等义务,希望能增进大家对佛法的认识与了解.

image00141) SJBA is organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 19 September to 24 October 2014. The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. The session this Friday (3 Oct) will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya and the topic is “Beginning and Ending of the Worlds”. On next Friday (10 Oct), the topic is “Living, Dying, Going Beyond” by Uncle Vijaya.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 26th October 2014. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (25th October 2014) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, a Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. 5) This Sunday’s (5/10/14, 10.00am) Chanting and Meditation will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

6) This Sunday’s (5/10/14) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “How to deal with crisis” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Curretly, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS. 这个星期日的讲题是”危机关头,如何面对?”, 讲师是黄淑娟居士黄淑娟居士毕业于拉曼学院, 持有 应用科学 学士学位及马来亚大学的科技(环境管理)硕士学位。她现今是一位环境顾问,注册于马来西亚环境部门。淑娟居士,出生于砂朥越州,在中学求学时,已开始学佛。她曾经是拉曼学院佛学会弘组主任和 Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society 的前任名誉秘书。目前,她志愿地为Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society 的成年人周日佛学班,分享佛法。.
