image00141) SJBA new course on “What Buddhists Believe” will be on every Friday, 8.30pm until 23rd Aug 2013 at our Shrine Hall. This Course covers the Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism. The Course will be off during the Hari Raya Holidays and will resume on 16th Aug 2013 on “The Three Refuges and Buddhist Texts” by Bro Ananda Fong. (Note: Topic on 2/8/13 is “More Happiness Secrets by Bro Ananda)

2) In conjunction with the 7th Lunar Month, SJBA is organising a Pattidana (Dedication of Merits) Ceremony on 18th August 2013 for the departed ones. When those departed relatives and friends, who may been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence, become aware that their departed relatives performing meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can feel relief. If they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth can be transformed into a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform acts of merits for the departed ones. The program will start at 8.00am with the offering of flowers, candles and pure water, followed by Pindahcara, chanting, Dhamma Talk, offering of requisites, dedication of merits to the departed ones and followed by Blessings by the Sangha and lunch dana. All are welcome to partake in this Pattidana.

3) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 56th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2013 (Saturday), The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2012. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2013. For more information, please call Sis. Lily at tel. 03-56315299;

On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

4) SJBA will be organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 13 September to 18 October 2013. The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.

5) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2012 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA from 2008 to now. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

5) This morning’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk at 11.30am (4/8/13) will be given by Sis Yee Yean. Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

6) This morning, Ven Sayadaw U Rewata will lead us in chanting and meditation with a short Dhamma Talk.

4) This morning’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk (28 July 2013) @11.30am will be given by Ven. Zong Qian Shi (×ÚǧÊÍ) on “The Six Principles of Harmony”

Shifu Zong Qian, whose maiden name is Sujata Yiddham, was born in Thailand in 1981. She graduated with a Higher Diploma in Hotel and Hospitality Programme and a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. In 2004, she resigned from her job and spent two years helping Venerable Dhammananda, (a Theravadian nun) in the Buddhist Woman Residence project and later became a Thai nun (mae chee).

In 2009, Shifu Zong Qian met her current Teacher, Ming Cen Shifu (Ã÷á¯Ê¦¸¸), and in 2010 became a Samaneri at Xiang Lin Lan Ruo nunnery (ÂíÀ´Î÷ÑÇÏãÁÖÀ¼ÈôËÂÔº) in Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia. She finally received her full Bhikkhuni’s ordination in 2011 at Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan.

5) This morning’s Dhamma talk by Sis Kah Yein “An honest look at Metta”. Dr Chan Kah Yein holds a Ph.D in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity for stray animals. She also gives public talks on ways to lead a more spiritually fulfilling life. To date, she has written eight books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all, for free distribution. With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

1) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on this Sunday, 7th April 2013, 8am to 11am, to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

2) The Introduction to Buddhism course that is ongoing for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 19 April 2013. Today (5 April 2013) the topic is “Noble Eightfold Path” by by Uncle Vijaya. On next Friday (12th April, 2013) the topic is “Living a Life of Peace and Serenity” by Sis Chan Kah Yein. 3) SJBA is organising an Introduction to Meditation Course conducted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi from 26 May to 1 Jun, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day orientation followed by 6 lessons) followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 1 Jun to 4 Jun. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. If you wish to join in the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. 4) SJBA’s Puja Session in Mandarin this Sunday will be off and will resume next Sunday from 11.30am to 12.30pm every Sunday, at SJBA Shrine Hall. All are welcome.

1) As another community service for our members and devotees with SJBA arranging with 2 experienced Chinese Physicians qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment to give treatment to those with certain sicknesses and bodily ache/pain, every Saturday, 9am to 12pm, at SJBA. The fees are chargeable at RM30.00 which include the diagnosis, acupuncture or other treatment, and medicine. Those who cannot afford the fees can apply for Humanitarian Aid at SJBA Office.

Huat Chye is a much sought after Dhamma Speaker. He has a Master Degree in Socio Psychology. He was member of the Way Farers and is known for writing and composing a number Buddhist hymns. He is a Founder Member and current Advisor of the Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society. He has also presented a number of papers at Buddhist conferences, etc. Bro. Huat Chye is the Principal Consultant of THC Consultancy Sdn Bhd.

1) Today, let us have a few minutes in silent meditation radiating metta to all the suffering ones in Sabah caused by the recent armed intrusion.May suffering ones be free from suffering. May those struck with grief be from from grief. May everyone be free from danger. May the Guardian Devas protect them. May the Blessings of the Triple Gem be with them.

4) SJBA is starting a Puja Session conducted in Mandarin beginning today (10th March 2013), 11.30am to 12.30pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. There will be a Dhamma Talk by Sis Tan Yee Yong who was the former SJBA Youth Section Chairperson and Dhamma Department Head. She currently serves in SJBA Dhamma Subcommittee. Sis Yee Yong graduated with a Bachelor of Science, MBA, Diploma in Buddhism and a Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies (IBC).

5) The Sutta Class conducted by Bro Chan Khoon San today (10th March) is on “Susima Sutta”. The venue is Room T9, from 3.00pm to 4.30pm.

6) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on ” Service to Others” by Bro. Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

Bojjhanga & Metta Chanting 5 Dec 2012

Namo Buddhaya.

 Every first Wednesday of the month, you are invited to join the SJBA Chantingfarers to chant the Bojjhanga Sutta & Metta Sutta for the well being of yourself or your loved ones.

However, as the names requested for radiating of Metta/Loving kindness are getting longer, we cordially request only those who are seriously ill, hospitalised or bed-ridden, before or post-surgery patients and those who cannot attend this Bojjhanga & Metta Chanting Session; be given their names to the Venerable Member of the Sangha for blessings.

Your cooperation is very much appreciated. Thank you.
