ANNOUNCEMENTS (2nd December, Sunday)

1) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held on Sunday, 9th December 2012, to provide needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This noble task has been achieved for the last 6 years due to the continuous support of generous Organizations, Donors, Devotees and Well Wishers. If you wish to donate for one or more students’ school items, you may do so at SJBA Office or call 03-56348181.

2) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat at SJBA will be held from 6th to 15th December 2012. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Sayadaw U Rewata and Ven Nyanaramsi. Sayadaw U Sobhita was born in 1951 in Pha-an, Karen State, Myanmar. He was ordained as a bhikkhu at the age of 20. He has taught meditation in many places including the Mahasi Meditation Centre. He has been an Assistant to Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa since 1988.

If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181.

3) SJBA is organizing a New Year Eve Blessing Night on December 31, 2012 (Saturday) to usher in 2013. It is a good time for all of us to get together to reinforce our fellowship, and at the same time to reflect on our deeds, and make aspirations to continue to improve ourselves in the upcoming year. The program shall begin at 8.30pm by Buddha Puja, Chanting & Blessings by the Members of the Sangha, sing-a-long Buddhist Hymns, Reflection on 2012 and making Aspirations for 2013, followed by refreshment, performances and countdown to usher the new year. (Lighting of Blessing Oil Lamp will commence at 9.00am at the Vihara).

Please bring your family and friends to join us to usher in a better year.

4) This morning, Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata will lead us in chanting, meditation and a short Dhamma Talk.

Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA from 2008 to now. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work.

3) This morning’s (25/11/12, 10am) Dhamma Talk “Forgiveness For families in Everyday Life – Communicating With Forgiveness” by Bro Jeff Oliver. Jeff Oliver is a dynamic and creative meditation teacher from Australia. He has been practicing vipassana (Awareness and Wisdom) meditation for 20 years, eight of which he was ordained as a Buddhist Monk in the Burmese Tradition. Jeff has shared practical life skills and ‘mind management’ in Malaysia for the last 15 years and in many areas of the world including Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe including Turkey.

Jeff’s ‘Plain English’ teachings are based on both ancient and modern ways of mind training such as appreciation, forgiveness, metta – unconditional love, concentration, awareness and wisdom. His style is open, approachable, friendly and gentle yet very effective for the modern seeker of truth.

3) The Fo Guang Shan Malaysia invites fellow Buddhists to their Buddhist Cultural & Dharma Blessing Function with a Triple Gem Refuge & Five Precepts Ceremony presided by Ven Hsing Yun (the founder of the Fo Guang Shan as well as their affiliated Buddha’s Light International). The event will be held at the Stadium Shah Alam on 24/11/12 (Sat), 7pm. Admission is by tickets (FOC) and the tickets can be obtained from SJBA Office. If you need bus transport, you may also register with Sis Lily.

4) This morning’s Dhamma Talk will be given by Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata.
