image00141) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. 2) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 14th December 2014. It will be the 8th anniversary of the Program in SJBA. For the last 7 years, we have been providing needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items this year. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of generous Donors. If you wish to contribute this year to the Educare Program to support the needy students, please contact Sis Lily at Tel. 03-56315299.

3) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat at SJBA will be from 12th December 2014 to 22nd December 2014. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

4) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (at 10.00am) is on “The Development of Calmness and Insight in Daily Life” by Ajahn Wimoak. Ajahn Vimoak is the Abbot of Wat Pipphalivanaram in Rayong, Bangkok. He obtained his Doctorate (PhD) and MA in Buddhism from Mahachulangkorn University, Thailand. He has vast experience in Insight Meditation gained from practising under various meditation masters among them Luang Pu Kasspamurni and Luang Pu Tean. He has extensive experience in teaching Insight Meditation and has been engaged by numerous organisations including Dhammasathan in Chulalongkorn University. He has designed and conducted the popular programme Development of Mindfulness and Awareness in the work place for large private corporations across Thailand.

5) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Dealing with Sickness” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Sis Tan Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now a Dhamma committee member of SJBA. 这个星期日的讲题是” 如何与病相处”, 讲师是陈玉容居士. 玉容居士持有科学学士学位及商业硕士学位,在商业界工作。她曾经是我们首邦再也佛教会青年组主席,及佛法小组组长 ,在学佛路上, 她持有佛教文凭及国际佛教大学佛教研究文科硕士 。目前她是我们首邦再也佛教会 佛法委会小组成员.

image00141) The Intermediate Course on Buddhism will end today, Friday, 24 October with the topic on “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health” by Bro. Datuk Charlie Chia.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on this Sunday, 26th October 2014. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (25th October 2014) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) There will be a Dhamma Talk on “Maintaining Sanity in a Fast-paced World” by Ven. S. Pemaratana Thero at SJBA Shrine Hall on this Tuesday, 28 October, 8.30pm to 10pm. Ven. Pemaratana is the Chief Abbot of Pittsburgh Buddhist Centre, USA. He received his higher ordination in 1997. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Buddhist Studies from the University of Singapore. He has lectured at the University of Peradenitya as well as the Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore. He conducts meditation workshop at his Centre and provides spiritual counseling to help people deal with challenging issues of life. In 2008, he was awarded the Haruki Award by the Transcultural Society for Clinical Meditation, Japan for his research on Meditation and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

6) This Sunday’s (19/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk “Lotus like Lay Buddhist” will be given by Mrs Wang. Mrs Wang is a SJBA Exco member and the Principal of SJBA Sunday Dhamma School since 1990. Mrs Wang was previously the Principal of SMK Seafield before her retirement.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Significance of Kathina” by Sis Lim Chye Hong. Sis Lim Chye Hong is a member of the SJBA Dhamma Committee. She helps regularly in meditation retreats. She has been a Secondary School teacher for over 20 years. 这个星期日的讲题是” 卡地那的意义”, 讲师是彩虹居士. 自2002年以来,彩虹居士是我们首邦再也佛教会 佛法委会小组成员。一直以来,本会 所举办的禅修营,她都在出力帮忙, 负责厨房和修禅者所需。她也是一位中学老师,已经职教了二十多年。

The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. 6) This Sunday’s (12/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk on “Developing Knowledge” will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Meeting with Uncertainty” by Chew Yee Yean. Sis Chew Yee Yean graduated from UKM. She is now working as a Senior Biochemist at UMMC. 这个星期日的讲题是“如何面对变幻莫测的无常”, 讲师是周怡燕居士. 怡燕居士 毕业于马来西亚国民大学,她现今 在 马大医药中心担任高级生物化学师。在这十年以来,她志愿地帮忙与宣扬佛法等义务,希望能增进大家对佛法的认识与了解.

5) This Sunday’s (5/10/14, 10.00am) Chanting and Meditation will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

6) This Sunday’s (5/10/14) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “How to deal with crisis” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Curretly, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS. 这个星期日的讲题是”危机关头,如何面对?”, 讲师是黄淑娟居士黄淑娟居士毕业于拉曼学院, 持有 应用科学 学士学位及马来亚大学的科技(环境管理)硕士学位。她现今是一位环境顾问,注册于马来西亚环境部门。淑娟居士,出生于砂朥越州,在中学求学时,已开始学佛。她曾经是拉曼学院佛学会弘组主任和 Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society 的前任名誉秘书。目前,她志愿地为Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society 的成年人周日佛学班,分享佛法。.
