image00141) This year’s Wesak day falls on Sunday, 3 May 2015.

Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 2 May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Ven. Nyanaramsi, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation.

On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.30pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment for those needing such services.

We need around 200 volunteer helpers to help organize all these activities. Please register yourselves by writing your name at our Notice Board or call Sis. Lily at Tel. 03-56315299.

2) The Selangor State Government, with the assistance from the Selangor Buddhist Development Council, is organizing a state-level Wesak Celebration on 9 May 2015, Saturday, 7.00pm to 10.00pm at the Auditorium Dewan Jubli, SUK Shah Alam. The night will be filled with interesting cultural performances from local as well as from foreign countries like Japan, Korea, and Sri Lanka. Light refreshment will be provided.

Transport will be provided (for those who need) with one bus be leaving SJBA at 6.00pm. Please register with Sis Lily (03-56348181) for bus transport, first-come, first-serve).

3) SJBA’s building extension (a new 4-storey block with basement) has officially commenced works on 8 March 2015. Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. The donors can write their name and sign on the bricks which will be used for the construction of the new block. For further information, please call Sis Lily at 01-56348181.

4) Another Temple Building Extension Fund Raising effort is through “Imee Ooi Concert – Sound of Wisdom” on 1 August 2015, Saturday, 3.00pm at Istana Budaya. Sis Imee Ooi of “The Chant of Metta” fame as well as many other highly-praised musical works will be making a live appearance in her debut concert.

A teacher, composer, producer, director and singer, Imee is serving the Dhamma with her extraordinary talent and voice. She is a Buddhist practitioner that adheres to the teachings of loving kindness, peace and harmony. Founder of IMM Musicworks in 1997, she has released more than 50 albums and has produced many musical works for many Buddhist societies and organizations. Her mission is in singing messages of peace, harmony and compassion or simply bringing healing sounds to her listeners through music.

Tickets are now available in SJBA (at RM100, RM150, RM200, RM250 and RM350). You can now have the opportunity to support the development of local Buddhist musical talents and performance arts as well as contributing to the building extension of SJBA Vihara.

Fund Raising for Nepal Earthquake Victims

Fellow Brothers & Sisters in the Dhamma,
nepal1A devastating 7.9 earthquake in Nepal on 25 April 2015 has destroyed many homes and lives and render thousands homeless. To-date more than 4,000 has died and the death toll is still rising. Countless thousands of traumatised people, especially the children, have to spend the cold nights out on the streets, in open spaces, frightened that the weakened buildings may collapse. They need our help.

SJBA is organising to raise funds in aid of the Nepal’s earthquake victims. Cash donations can be bank into Subang Jaya Buddhist Association Bank A/C: CIMB 12610000122052. (Please indicate behind cheque “For Nepal Earthquake Victims). Please request for receipts by forwarding your bank slip and name of donor.

 

You can also donate tents, blankets, clothing (new please), instant food, dry foodstuff, canned food, cooking oil (no rice and sugar pleanepal2se as they are controlled items in Nepal), for Nepal earth quake victims. For quicker logistics, please send direct to Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul from 4th to 8th May 2015. If it is not convenient for you to do so, SJBA can also help to collect (from 4th to 7th May) and resend to Sentul .
The cash donations and the above items will be sent to Vishwa Shanti Vihara, Kathmandu (Abbot: Sayadaw Nyanapurnik and/or Charumati Buddha Vihara, Kathmandu (Abbot: Ven. Tapassi) or the Fo Guang Shan New Delhi.

Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. 4) This Sunday’s (26/4/15) Dhamma Talk (in English, 10am) will be given by Bro Billy Tan. Bro. Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective.

5) This Sunday’s (26/4/15) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Living Harmoniously” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Curretly, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

师是黄淑娟居士黄淑娟居士毕业于拉曼学院, 持有 应用科学 学士学位及马来亚大学的科技(环境管理)硕士学位。她现今是一位环境顾问,注册于马来西亚环境部门。淑娟居士,出生于砂朥越州,在中学求学时,已开始学佛。她曾经是拉曼学院佛学会弘组主任和 Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society 的前任名誉秘书。目前,她志愿地为Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society 的成年人周日佛学班,分享佛法。

5) This Sunday’s (19/4/15) Dhamma Talk (in English, 10am) will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

6) This Sunday’s (19/4/15) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Inspirational Stories” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Sis Tan Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now a Dhamma committee member of SJBA.

4) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk “The forests are peaceful, why aren’t you?” by Ven. Dr. Sangharatana Nayaka Maha Thera on 14th April 2015, 8.30pm. Venerable Sangharatana is the Chief Abbot of the Pitaramba Temple in
Bentota, Sri Lanka and the founder of the Bentota Buddhist Social Welfare Institution. Through these organizations, village socio-welfare programs such as English library, free tuition classes, training programs for pre-school teachers and interest free micro credit for cottage industries and entrepreneurship are conducted to uplift the rural community.

Soon after the Tsunami disaster in 2004, he worked for the affected people in Bentota and built a housing scheme for them. Then after he opened one daycare center for the benefit of needy people around there under the name of Paramita.

The Venerable has authored several books. Amongst them are How to See the Living Buddha (poems), Maharashta Buddhist in India and Buddhism – The Thirst Quencher.

4) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on 12 April 2015, Sunday, 8am to 11am to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

5) SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi will be conducting a Meditation Reteat in Cameron Highland as follows:

Date: 8th to 10th May 2015 (Friday to Sunday)

Venue: San Poh Temple, Brinchang, Cameron Highland

Meals: Vegetarian

Lodging: At San Poh Temple, by donation

SJBA will charter a bus for this retreat. The bus will pick up yogis at SJBA on the 8 May, Friday, leaving SJBA 7.30am SHARP.
Yogis are required to observe the 9 precepts during this Retreat. Those unable to take 9 precepts are to inform the organiser in advance and make own arrangement for light dinner.
A contribution of RM150 per yogi is required to defray the running cost for meals, transportation & donation to the San Poh Temple for the usage of the premise. Individual donation to the temple is also welcome but optional.

participants of the last Cameron Highlands Retreat) will be accepted for this Retreat, first-come-first-serve basis.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (5 April, 10.00am) will be given by Venerable Dhammapala. Venerable. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.
