Buddha

1) The topic of  “What the Buddhist Believe” (Series 2 in 9 consecutive Fridays) this Friday, 18 October will be “Happiness & Well Being in Life” by Uncle Vijaya. All are welcome.

On next Friday, 25 October, the topic is “My Monkey Mind and Getting it Back” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. 

The topics for these 9 sessions are based on the book “What the Buddhists Believe” by the late Chief Reverend Dr. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 27th October 2019. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2019) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by, Procession Round the Vihara, Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) SJBA is organising a MahasanghikaDana (lunch) for 100 Monks in SJBA on 28 October 2019. The Programme will start at 9am with the arrival of the 100 Monks, followed by Chanting of the Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta, Blessings by the Sangha, Sharing of Merits at our Shrine Hall and MahasanghikaDana at our new Dana Hall. Lunch will also be provided for devotees. Due to space and time constraints, devotees are encouraged to (instead of bringing individual offering of food items, etc) contribute to the Sangha Fund for the food (which is catered and prepacked and devotees have the opportunity to offer one packed box each to one Monk) and potential requisites (angpows). All are welcome to this auspicious and meritorious Dana.

4) SJBA invite you and family and friends to a spiritual and mentally enriching morning at this Sunday’s Buddha Puja commencing at 9.15am with offering of lights, flowers and incense to the Buddha, chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings and Sharing of Merits.
