Buddha

1) Series 2 of  “What the Buddhist Believe” in 9 consecutive Fridays will commence this Friday, 6 September with the topic “Protecting Yourselves” by Uncle Vijaya. All are welcome.

On next Friday, 13 September, the topic is “Gradually along the Path” by Bro Ananda Fong.

The topics for these 9 sessions are based on the book “What the Buddhists Believe” by the late Chief Reverend Dr. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera.

2) Ven. Indarathana and Ven. Sumana are currently observing the Vassa in SJBA during this 3-month Rains Retreat. Besides their own spiritual cultivation, the Venerables will also be conducting many Dhamma programs during these 3 months for the mental and spiritual benefits of our devotees including the following: 

(a) Daily chanting of the Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta led by the Venerables at SJBA Shrine Hall  from 7.30pm to 8.15pm

(b) Three (3) Sutta Study Workshop (i) Metta Sutta on 3 August (over already), (ii) Ratana Sutta (TBC) (iii) Mangala Sutta on 21 September will be held at SJBA Vihara from 9am to 4pm. For registration, please contact Sis Lily at SJBA Office (Tel. 03-56348181)

3) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 27th October 2019. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2019) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by, Procession Round the Vihara, Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

4) SJBA invite you and family and friends to a spiritual and mentally enriching morning at this Sunday’s Buddha Puja commencing at 9.15am with offering of lights, flowers and incense to the Buddha, chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings and Sharing of Merits.
