image00141. The Intermediate Course on Buddhism running for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 6 November 2015. The course covers Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. On this Friday (30 Oct) the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature” by Datuk Charlie Chia. 2. This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on 8 November 2015 (Sunday). Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (7 November 2015) with Taking The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3 This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 18th to 27th December 2015. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Venerable Sayadaw Pyinnyarnanda and our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

4 This year SJBA Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 6 December 2015 to provide poor students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items on 6 December 2015. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. 5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (1/11/15, 10am) will be given by Ven. Mahacara who is residing in SJBA for the Vassa (Rains Retreat). During this 3-month period, Venerable Mahacara will be cultivating himself in SJBA Vihara as well as teaching devotees the Dhamma.

6.This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (1/11/15at 11.30am) is on “Wise Effort” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Currently, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

He is practicing at RenKang TCM Clinic in Klang and KL Karma Kagju Dharma Society as a volunteer TCM Master.

4. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (4/10/15, 10am) will be given by Bro. Jeff Oliver. Jeff Oliver has been sharing the Dhamma in Malaysia since his first visit in 1995 as a Buddhist monk
known as Dhammarakkhita, “Protector of the Dhamma”. He still believes in his name and
devotes his life to not only protecting the pure Dhamma but continuously exploring it and sharing it for the benefit of anyone who seeks wisdom, peace and freedom. Jeff’s approach to the teaching is relaxed and practical yet deeply profound and life transforming. He shares useful ways of formal meditation and gives necessary advice for living the practice in daily life. Jeff gives talks, workshops and short and long term retreats. He believes in the power of communication, understanding the Dhamma intellectually through discussion and questions and answers as well as experience through silent and deep introspection into the true nature of existence in this moment, here and now.

5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (4/10/15, 11.30am) is on “Effective Buddhist Attitude at Work” by Bro Tom Hem. Bro Tom is an accredited Chinese physician and acupuncturist focuses on family medicine in Puchong. He is a long serving Dhamma volunteer and a Dhamma speaker with strong interest in Engaging and Applied Buddhism. At present, he is an Exco member of Kinrara Metta Buddhist society.

In line with SJBA’s effort in promoting a caring and compassionate community, we have invited children from Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Kurang Upaya (P3KU) to join us in our celebration. The children have provided us with a wish-list. If you wish to fulfil their dream, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181 / 56315299 for the items they have wished for. Please remember to bring your lantern along for the traditional lantern procession round the temple to end the night. DINNER WILL BE SERVED, however we encourage you to bring some desserts to share with everyone. Please bring your family and friends to SJBA on 26th September 2015 (Saturday) 7.00pm to join us in our fun-filled celebration.

Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

玉容居士持有科学学士学位及商业硕士学位,在商业界工作。她曾经是我们首邦再也佛教会青年组主席,及佛法小组组长 ,在学佛路上, 她持有佛教文凭及国际佛教大学佛教研究文科硕士 。目前她是我们首邦再也佛教会 佛法委会小组成员.

SJBA is celebrating our country’s 58th Merdeka Day on Monday, 31 August 2015 (Monday), The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration.
In conjunction with the 58th Merdeka Day Celebration and to encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2014.
On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PT3, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

2. SJBA Youth Section is opening a booth on 31 August 2015, 9am – 12pm for registration for its Temple Building Fund-Raising “Lose to win” Campaign. This is a 2-months fitness campaign that offers an unique way to lose weight whilst raising funds. Upon signing up, the participants will have to come to SJBA on 31st August 10 a.m. to weigh in and record their details. Throughout the campaign, the participants are to do their best to lose weight and finally asked to weigh in again at the end of the program. The weight difference between the start and the end of the program will be converted into donation by the friends of the participants as pledged during the sign up period. 3. To-date SJBA have received donations of about RM 3 million for its Building Extension. The cost of construction of the new building is RM5 million. We look forward for more help to raise the balance in order for us to successfully complete the construction of the new building by June 2016.

4. Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. The donors can write their name and sign on the bricks which will be used for the construction of the new block. For further information, please call Sis Lily at 03-56348181.

5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk is on ” Peta’s, Spirits & Compassion” by Bro Wong Mun Yee. Bro. Mun Yee began learning Buddhism during his secondary school days at St John’s Institution’s Buddhist Society in Kuala Lumpur. He participated actively in Buddhist youth camps and was involved as a core member of Dhammaduta Youth (D2Y). He graduated from Charles Sturt University, Australia and established the Mitchell Buddhist Group whilst in university. He is a representative of Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, former Deputy President of Buddhist Gem Fellowship and former Assistant Secretary General of World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY) for Buddhist Education. He continues to share Dhamma with young adults in local camps, schools, colleges and universities such as UCSI, MMU, IMU, Sunway & Monash. He’s currently a Project Manager for an organization and continues to pursue his interest as principal and designer at Flora Mandarava.
