image00141) In conjunction with the 7th Lunar Month, SJBA is organising a Pattidana (Dedication of Merits) Ceremony on 3rd August 2014, Sunday for the departed ones. When those departed relatives and friends, who may been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence, become aware that their departed relatives performing meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can feel relief. If they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth can be transformed into a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform acts of merits for the departed ones. The program will start at 8.00am with the offering of flowers, candles and pure water, followed by Pindacara, chanting, Dhamma Talk, offering of requisites, dedication of merits to the departed ones and followed by Blessings by the Sangha and lunch dana. All are welcome to partake in this Pattidana.

2) SJBA Sunday Dhamma School is organizing a Food & fun Fair on 24/8/14 (Sunday) to raise a target of RM70,000 for SJBA Building Extension Fund as well as to inculcate into the students the Buddhist value of Dana. Sponsors and volunteers interested in participating in this Food & Fun Fair are welcomed. Please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181

3) SJBA is celebrating the country’s 57th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2014 (Sunday), The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2013. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2014. For more information, please call Sis. Lily at tel. 03-56315299. Closing date for submission is 31st July 2014. On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

5) This morning’s (Sunday, 27/7/14, 10am) Dhamma Talk is on “The Happiness Path – Recognising tanha, reducing dukkha and being happy walking the Noble Eightfold Path”. The Talk will be given by Dr. Chan Kah Yein. Sis Kah Yeinholds a Ph.D in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity fund for street animals. She also gives public talks on living a spiritual and simpler life. To date, she has written eight books and her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all for free distribution. Her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

5th Day Vassa Chanting on 16th July 2014

Members and devotees are invited to participate in the 5th Day Vassa Chanting on 16th July 2014Wednesday7.30pm (not 8.30pm as announced last Thursday), at SJBA Shrine Hall, to commemorate the day the Buddha taught the Anattalakkhana Sutta to His first 5 disciples of the Buddha who had by listening to this sermon, meditating on the five aggregates of clinging and realizing 3 higher stages of supramundane knowledge that lead them to the attainment of Arahantship. 

 

Sunday Dhamma School Sesssion B Food Fair Pre Sale (20th Jul 2014)

This coming Sunday 20th Jul 2014, SJBS Sunday Dhamma School Session B teachers and students will be having a Food Faire Pre Sale to raise fund for our upcoming building extension.

Time: 9 am – 12 noon
Venue: Dana Hall

Please come and have breakfast, brunch and lunch with us.
We have vegetarian Mee Hoon, vegetarian duck and char siew, limited edition of home made pumpkin muffin and fried durian balls, loh mee, wraps, drinks and many more.

image00141) SJBA is making the invitation to Sayadaw U Rewata and Venerable Dhammapala on 12th July 2014, Saturday, 8.30pm -10.00pm (at our Shrine Hall) to enter Vassa (Rains Retreat) in SJBA. The program will include taking the 3 Refuges and observe the 5 Precepts, formal invitation to the Sanga Members to stay in SJBA for the 3-month Vassa so that we can organise the Kathina, determination by the Sangha, offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha followed by chanting and sharing of merits. Members and devotees are invited to witness this Vassa Entry Ceremony

5) This Sunday’s (13 July 2014, 11.30am) Dhamma Talk (in Mandarin) is on “Meeting With the Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammapala. Ven. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations. . 这个星期日的讲题是与佛法相会, 讲师是法护法师. 法师毕业于斯里兰卡的Kelaniya大学,专注于巴利文和佛教研究。法师也在香港大学获得了博士学位,也在香港大学当过讲师,并呈列了一些论文。他目前是 “Buddhistdoor” 佛门的精神理事。是香港大学, 佛学校友会中心的副主席。也是其他以佛教为基础的组织的理事主任

6) This Sunday (13 July 2014) Dhamma Talk (in English, 10am) will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA. VASSA ENTRY and 5th DAY VASSA CHANTING

image00141) The Samatha & Vipassana Sutta Study with Meditation Workshop conducted by Ven. Aggacitta Maha Thera will continue this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 5,6 July) in SJBA Shrine Hall. Hence. On this Sundays (6 July 2014), our regular Puja Service (9.30am – 11am) will be held at our Dana Hall.

2) For those who wish to offer Lunch Dana, please note that Ven. Aggacitta food should be preferably steamed, without oil, ginger, garlic nor onions, no pork, corns, cabbage. Rice should be brown or red rice, organic. Lunch dana for the workshop participants are also welcome. Dana in the form of services to help prepare and offer the lunch as well as cleaning are also most welcome.

6) This Sunday (6 July 2014) morning’s Chanting and Meditation will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

5) This Sunday morning’s Dhamma Talk in English (29/6/14, 10am) will be held at our Dana Hall. The Talk will be given by Sis. Tan Yee Yong. Sis. Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and
MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now
a Dhamma Committee Member of SJBA.

SJBA will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) this Sunday (22nd June 2014) at 9.30am. The Agenda include receiving and adopting the Executive Committee’s Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts, Election of a new Executive Committee and deliberation of other matters as deemed fit by the Assembly.
