image00141) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 15th December, to provide needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This meritorious deed can be achieved with the support of generous Organizations, Donors, Devotees and Well Wishers. Your contributions to support one or more of the students would be much appreciated.

2) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2013 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, and SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. 3) This morning’s Chanting and Meditation will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

3) SJBA will host a Dhamma Talk by Ajahn Jayanto on 26th November 2013, 8.30pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. Born in the United States in 1967, Ajahn Jayanto entered the Buddhist monastic community in 1989, training as a Bhikkhu under Ajahn Sumedho and others in the Ajahn Chah forest monasteries in England and Thailand. He currently lives at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in the U.K.

4) This morning’s Dhamma Talk (17/11/13) is given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

This delightful musical is produced by the famous Asia Musical Productions (the award-winning team of “Siddhartha The Musical” and “Princess Wen Cheng”) featuring some of the best talents in Malaysia’s arts and entertainment scene. Tickets are sold at RM120, RM180, M250 and RM400. Sponsors of RM5,000 will be given a VVIP seat, a plaque and engraving of their names in the new building’s Donors Board. 5) This morning (10/11/13) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin is on “Putting Dhamma into Daily Practice” by Sis Suh Chuen. Sis. Wong Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Currently, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

6) This morning (10/11/13) Dhamma Talk is on “Forgiveness Revisited” by Bro Jeff Oliver. Jeff Oliver is a dynamic and creative meditation teacher from Australia. He has been practicing vipassana (Awareness and Wisdom) meditation for about 19 years, eight of which he was ordained as a Buddhist Monk in the Burmese tradition. Jeff has shared practical life skills and ‘mind management’ in many areas of the world including Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe including Turkey. Jeff’s teachings are based on both ancient and modern ways of mind training especially, such as appreciation, forgiveness, “metta” unconditional love, concentration, awareness and wisdom. Basically, Jeff is offering us a ‘toolbox’ of techniques to be used both in formal, intensive meditation and in any situation during our busy and complicated daily life. His style is open, approachable, friendly and gentle yet very effective for the modern seeker of truth.

3) TCM Practitioner at SJBA�s Saturday�s TCM Session, Mr Lee will be conducting a Natural Qi Gong Class, FOC, every Wednesday starting 6th November 2013, 8.30pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Meditation Hall. 4) SJBA is organizing a 8-Precepts Observance Day to be conducted by Ven Guttacitta (in Mandarin and English) on 9th November 2013, 8am to 6pm, at SJBA. The program will include Dhamma Talks, guided meditation, own practice, video on Buddhism (in Mandarin), etc. Ven Guttacitta was ordained and trained in the Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, Taiping.

image00141) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on this Sunday, 27th October 2013. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2013) with Taking of The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk by Sayadaw U Rewata, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) There will be a Talk by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena this Wednesday, 30th October 2013 at 8.00pm. The Venerable was born in the Himalayan region of Ladakh. He was brought up in a religious family of Buddhists. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Indian Army where he was imbued with a strong sense of discipline. In 1977 he answered the spiritual call and left the army and became a disciple of the famed Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Mahathera of the Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore, India. He undertook studies in the Dhamma and practised various methods of Buddhist meditation.

In 1986,Venerable Sanghasena founded the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) in Ladakh. Since then he has worked tirelessly to put loving-kindness and compassion into action through various charitable and humanitarian services in the more than 200 acres of desert that is the Devachan campus at Choglamsar, Ladakh. Today MIMC is one of the leading NGOs in the Himalayan region.

For his selfless service, Venerable Sanghasena was presented with the National Award for the Welfare of People with Disabilities by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India; Peace Award for the Year 2004 by The Gandhi Peace Foundation; Man of the Year 2002 by the American Biographical Institute, Inc.; Peace Environment Award by the United Nations, amongst numerous accolades.

6) This Sunday Mandarin Dhamma Talk on “Introduction of Mahasi Tradition of Meditation” at 11.30am (20/10/13) will be given by Sis Chye Hong. Sis Chye Hong is a secondary school teacher for the past 23 years. She is an experienced meditator and has been helping in meditation retreats for many years. She is also SJBA Dhamma Committee Member since 2002.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English at 10.00am is on “Back to Basics”, given by Bro SC Chim. Bro. Chim is the President of SJBA. He is also the Chairman of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia.

6) Today’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk at 11.30am (13/10/13) will be by Sis Yee Yong. The topic is “Orientation of Life”. Sis Yee Yong is the ex-Chairperson of SJBA Youth Section and also the former Dhamma Department Head. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science, MBA, as well as a Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies. She gives Dhamma Talks regularly in both Mandarin and English. 7) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is given by Bro Tan Siang Chye, on “Problem of Evil”. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

This delightful musical is produced by the famous Asia Musical Productions (the award-winning team of “Siddhartha The Musical” and “Princess Wen Cheng”) featuring some of the best talents in Malaysia’s arts and entertainment scene. Tickets are sold at RM120, RM180, RM250 and RM400. Sponsors of RM5,000 will be given a VVIP seat, a plaque and engraving of their names in the new building’s Donors Board. 2) SJBA is organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 13 September to 18 October 2013. 3) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 27th October 2013. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2013) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

4) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2013 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, and SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He has served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

Ven. Nyanramsi was an accountant before he was ordained in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Yangon with Chanmyay Sayadaw, Ven. U Jananakabhivamsa, as his preceptor. Ven. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work.

2) As another community service, SJBA will jointly organize with the Jawatankuasa Penduduk Subang Jaya-MPSJ Zon 1 to provide 1-day Traditional Chinese Medicine Service to the public FOC on 14thSeptember 2013, at the SS15 MPSJ Multi-purpose Hall from 9am to 3pm. Experienced Chinese Physicians qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment will give treatment to those with certain sicknesses and bodily ache/pain, including diagnosis, acupuncture or other treatment, and medicine. Members, devotees and members of the public are invited to come for this day of FOC Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment, which will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis up to a maximum of 80 patients only. Light refreshment / lunch will be provided for patients and helpers.

3) SJBA is organizing a Family Night of Joy and Fellowship on 14th September 2013 in conjunction with the Lantern Festival, to promote fellowship amongst our devotees. Activities include lantern procession round the temple playground and performances. Children from orphanages will be invited to join the fun. Members and devotees will get the opportunity to perform Dana by fulfilling the wishes of these underprivileged children. This is a Family Night, so please bring along your family and friends as well to participate in all the fun/joy activities planned for you. Dinner will be served at 7.30pm. You may also bring your food to share with others.

image00141) SJBA new course on “What Buddhists Believe” will be on every Friday, 8.30pm until 23rd Aug 2013 at our Shrine Hall. This Course covers the Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism. On this coming Friday (2/8/13) Bro Ananda Fong will discuss on “More Happiness Secrets” (Note: Topic on 26/7/13 is “The Happiness Recipe” by Bro Tan Siang Chye)

2) In conjunction with the 7th Lunar Month, SJBA is organising a Pattidana (Dedication of Merits) Ceremony on 18th August 2013 for the departed ones. When those departed relatives and friends, who may been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence, become aware that their departed relatives performing meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can feel relief. If they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth can be transformed into a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform acts of merits for the departed ones. The program will start at 8.00am with the offering of flowers, candles and pure water, followed by Pindahcara, chanting, Dhamma Talk, offering of requisites, dedication of merits to the departed ones and followed by Blessings by the Sangha and lunch dana. All are welcome to partake in this Pattidana

3) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 56th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2013 (Saturday), The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2012. On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

4) This morning’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk (28 July 2013) @11.30am will be given by Ven. Zong Qian Shi (×ÚǧÊÍ) on “The Six Principles of Harmony”

Shifu Zong Qian, whose maiden name is Sujata Yiddham, was born in Thailand in 1981. She graduated with a Higher Diploma in Hotel and Hospitality Programme and a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. In 2004, she resigned from her job and spent two years helping Venerable Dhammananda, (a Theravadian nun) in the Buddhist Woman Residence project and later became a Thai nun (mae chee).

In 2009, Shifu Zong Qian met her current Teacher, Ming Cen Shifu (Ã÷á¯Ê¦¸¸), and in 2010 became a Samaneri at Xiang Lin Lan Ruo nunnery (ÂíÀ´Î÷ÑÇÏãÁÖÀ¼ÈôËÂÔº) in Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia. She finally received her full Bhikkhuni’s ordination in 2011 at Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan.

Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

5) This morning’s Dhamma talk by Sis Kah Yein “An honest look at Metta”. Dr Chan Kah Yein holds a Ph.D in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity for stray animals. She also gives public talks on ways to lead a more spiritually fulfilling life. To date, she has written eight books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all, for free distribution. With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.
