image00141) SJBA is hosting a Musical Show on 16th November 2013 at the KL PAC, Sentul, to raise funds for our building extension. This delightful musical is produced by the famous Asia Musical Productions (the award-winning team of Siddhartha The Musical and Princess Wen Cheng) featuring some of the best talents in Malaysia’s arts and entertainment scene. Tickets are sold at RM120, RM180, RM250 and RM400. Sponsors of RM5,000 will be given a VVIP seat, a plaque and engraving of their names in the new building�s Donors Board. You may get the tickets at SJBA Office (please contact Sis Lily, 03-56315299 or Bro Lim Mong Seng, 012-2131686. For sponsorship, please contact Bro Peter Chew, 012-2259003.

2) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 15th December, to provide needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This meritorious deed can be achieved with the support of generous Organizations, Donors, Devotees and Well Wishers. Your support and contributions to support one or more of the students would be much appreciated.

3) TCM Practitioner at SJBA�s Saturday�s TCM Session, Mr Lee will be conducting a Natural Qi Gong Class, FOC, every Wednesday starting 6th November 2013, 8.30pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Meditation Hall. Please call Sis Lily at 03-56348181 to register, first-come-first-serve, up to maximum 50 persons only.

4) SJBA is organizing a 8-Precepts Observance Day to be conducted by Ven Guttacitta (in Mandarin and English) on 9th November 2013, 8am to 6pm, at SJBA. The program will include Dhamma Talks, guided meditation, own practice, video on Buddhism (in Mandarin), etc. Ven Guttacitta was ordained and trained in the Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, Taiping.

5) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2013 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, and SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator at 03-56348181.

6) Sayadaw U Rewata is attending a Kathina Ceremony today, at the Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary, Taiping. This morning’s chanting (3rd November 2013) will be lead by SJBA Chanting Farers’ leader, Sis Eng Bee.

Talk by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena

There will be a Talk by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena this Wednesday, 30th October 2013 at 8.00pm. The Venerable was born in the Himalayan region of Ladakh. He was brought up in a religious family of Buddhists. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Indian Army where he was imbued with a strong sense of discipline. In 1977 he answered the spiritual call and left the army and became a disciple of the famed Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita Mahathera of the Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore, India. He undertook studies in the Dhamma and practised various methods of Buddhist meditation.

image00141) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on this Sunday, 27th October 2013. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2013) with Taking of The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk by Sayadaw U Rewata, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

In 1986,Venerable Sanghasena founded the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) in Ladakh. Since then he has worked tirelessly to put loving-kindness and compassion into action through various charitable and humanitarian services in the more than 200 acres of desert that is the Devachan campus at Choglamsar, Ladakh. Today MIMC is one of the leading NGOs in the Himalayan region.

For his selfless service, Venerable Sanghasena was presented with the National Award for the Welfare of People with Disabilities by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India; Peace Award for the Year 2004 by The Gandhi Peace Foundation; Man of the Year 2002 by the American Biographical Institute, Inc.; Peace Environment Award by the United Nations, amongst numerous accolades.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He has served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

Ven. Nyanramsi was an accountant before he was ordained in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Yangon with Chanmyay Sayadaw, Ven. U Jananakabhivamsa, as his preceptor. Ven. Nyanaramsi moved to Hmawbi branch in 1996 and continued his training under Chanmyay Myaing Sayadaw U Indaka (former abbot of Hmawbi Branch) and other resident Sayadaws. He spent 9 vassas in Myanmar. In late 2003, he accepted an invitation from SJBA to return to Malaysia to teach Dhamma and Satipatthana Meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. He is now the Chief Abbot of SJBA. He travels frequently to Thailand, Taiwan, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

Announcements (Sunday, 23rd June 2013)

image00141) SJBA is organising a new course on “What Buddhists Believe” on every Friday from 14th June to 23rd Aug 2013, 8.30pm at our Shrine Hall. This Course covers the Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism. The Course will be conducted by Bro Ananda Fong and Bro Tan Siang Chye. On this coming Friday (28/6/13) Bro Ananda will discuss on “Four Noble Truth, Anicca and Anatta”. (Note: Topic on 21/6/13 is “Is Buddhism Obsolete in the 21st Century” by Bro Ananda Fong)

2) Our Mandarin Puja Service will be from 11.30am to 12.30pm today (23rd June) with a Dhamma Talk on “Buddhism & Society” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

3)This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on ‘The Importance of mindfulness/heedfulness to cope with Life’s problems/suffering’. Human sufferings are very real and so many people are afflicted by it every now and then. Some of them can be very traumatic with suicidal tendencies. Grief, sorrow, lamentation, fear, worries and anxieties leading to severe depressionand sadness, etc are very common nowadays. Some consult doctors, psychiatrist, mediums, feng shui masters, etc. Some seek GOD, religions and friends for help but are they really effective? Maybe some are but most of them are only temporary solutions which may not be really effective at all. Can meditation together with medication help? Our Speaker, Bro. Teoh Kian Koon, graduated from University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. He had been a spiritual practitioner cum meditator since 1971. Since 2001, he has been sharing his understanding and experiences with serious and keen spiritual practitioners and others who are keen in their search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth, aging, sickness and death and all mental suffering

In view of the Annual Elections this Sunday, 5th May 2013,
there will be no Puja Session in English and in Mandarin.

At 9:30am a screening of a recorded Dhamma Talk with the title “Power of the Mind” by the late Chief Reverend, Venerable Dr. K Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera.

There will be a Blessing Chanting on this Sunday, 5th May 2013, led by SJBA Chantingfarers from 8.30pm to 9.30pm at SJBA Shrine Hall, to invoke the blessings for a safe and peaceful post-elections for the country. All are welcome to join in the chanting.

Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. If you wish to join in the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. 1) This year’s Wesak day falls on 24th May 2013. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 23rd May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Free Health Check and Buddhist films shows and Buddhist calligraphy. Kian Koon graduated from the University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. Since his retirement in 2001 from his engineering career, he has been sharing his understanding and experience with all who are keen to search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth and death, and all mental suffering to become more virtuous, noble and wiser human beings. He gives Dhamma Talks and holds meditation and Dhamma classes at various meditation centres.
