image00141) The Intermediate Course on Buddhism will end on 24 October 2014. The session this Friday (17 Oct) will be conducted by Bro Charlie Chia and the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature”. On next Friday (24 Oct), Bro Charlie Chia will cover the topic on “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health”.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 26th October 2014. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (25th October 2014) with Taking The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. 4) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 14th December 2014. It will be the 8th anniversary of the Program in SJBA. For the last 7 years, we have been providing needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items this year. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of generous Donors. If you wish to contribute this year to the Educare Program to support the needy students, please contact Sis Lily at Tel. 03-56315299.

5) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat at SJBA will be from 12th December 2013 to 22nd December 2014. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

6) This Sunday’s (19/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk “Lotus like Lay Buddhist” will be given by Mrs Wang. Mrs Wang is a SJBA Exco member and the Principal of SJBA Sunday Dhamma School since 1990. Mrs Wang was previously the Principal of SMK Seafield before her retirement.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Significance of Kathina” by Sis Lim Chye Hong. Sis Lim Chye Hong is a member of the SJBA Dhamma Committee. She helps regularly in meditation retreats. She has been a Secondary School teacher for over 20 years. 这个星期日的讲题是” 卡地那的意义”, 讲师是彩虹居士. 自2002年以来，彩虹居士是我们首邦再也佛教会 佛法委会小组成员。一直以来，本会 所举办的禅修营，她都在出力帮忙， 负责厨房和修禅者所需。她也是一位中学老师，已经职教了二十多年。

image00141) SJBA is organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 19 September to 24 October 2014. The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. The session this Friday (10 Oct) will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya and the topic is “Living, Dying, Going Beyond”. On next Friday (17 Oct), the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature” by Bro. 6) This Sunday’s (12/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk on “Developing Knowledge” will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Meeting with Uncertainty” by Chew Yee Yean. Sis Chew Yee Yean graduated from UKM. She is now working as a Senior Biochemist at UMMC. 这个星期日的讲题是“如何面对变幻莫测的无常”, 讲师是周怡燕居士. 怡燕居士 毕业于马来西亚国民大学，她现今 在 马大医药中心担任高级生物化学师。在这十年以来，她志愿地帮忙与宣扬佛法等义务，希望能增进大家对佛法的认识与了解.

On 15 December 2013, about 530 student needy students of various races received school bags, books, stationary, etc worth about RM100 each from SJBA, thanks to the generous contribution from our members, devotees and well-wishers. Subang Jaya’s ADUN, YB Hannah Yeoh also contributed RM10,000 and the Selangor State Government contributed shoe vouchers worth RM30 for the students to choose their own shoes at Bata outlets.

We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventual success in life. We wish to thank the Selangor State Government, Pejabat ADUN Subang Jaya, our members, devotees and others who have kindly donated to this meaningful project. We also thank the Organising Team led by Bro James Khoo and all the helpers for making this Educare Program a reality for the good, benefit and happiness of so many poor students. One family with 3 children (picture) expressed their gratitude to SJBA and all those who make this Educare Program a great help to the needy. The father, Mr Muneandy Selvam has been without a steady job for 4 years due his slip disc problem. Starting a new school term is a big burden to him without a steady income. He was very amazed at the selfless altitude of SJBA members who happily provide a good service to the poor irrespective of race and religion. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to SJBA and all the donors and helpers.

Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, books, stationary, etc. courtesy from our generous donors. They will receive also shoes vouchers, courtesy from the Selangor State Government. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life.

It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. This meritorious deed can be achieved with the support of generous Organizations, Donors, Devotees and Well Wishers. Your contributions to support one or more of the students would be much appreciated. You are also welcome to witness the handing over of the school items to the students.

2) This morning’s (8 December 2013) Dhamma Talk will be given by SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats..

3) This morning’s Chanting and Meditation will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

Born in the United States in 1967, Ajahn Jayanto entered the Buddhist monastic community in 1989, training as a Bhikkhu under Ajahn Sumedho and others in the Ajahn Chah forest monasteries in England and Thailand. He currently lives at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in the U.K .

4) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “The Importance of Buddhist Devotional Practice to Walk the Path of the Dhamma” by Bro Teoh Kian Koon. Bro. Teoh Kian Koon graduated from University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. He had been a spiritual practitioner cum ‘Meditator’ since 1971. Since his retirement in 2001 from his engineering career, he has been sharing his understanding and experiences with all who are keen in the search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth and death and all mental suffering to become a more virtuous, noble and wiser human being. He gives talks and hold meditation and Dhamma classes at various meditation centres.

image00141) SJBA is hosting a Musical Show on 16th November 2013 at the KL PAC, Sentul, to raise funds for our building extension. This delightful musical is produced by the famous Asia Musical Productions (the award-winning team of “Siddhartha The Musical” and “Princess Wen Cheng”) featuring some of the best talents in Malaysia’s arts and entertainment scene. Tickets are sold at RM120, RM180, M250 and RM400. Sponsors of RM5,000 will be given a VVIP seat, a plaque and engraving of their names in the new building’s Donors Board. 5) This morning (10/11/13) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin is on “Putting Dhamma into Daily Practice” by Sis Suh Chuen. Sis. Wong Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Currently, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.

6) This morning (10/11/13) Dhamma Talk is on “Forgiveness Revisited” by Bro Jeff Oliver. Jeff Oliver is a dynamic and creative meditation teacher from Australia. He has been practicing vipassana (Awareness and Wisdom) meditation for about 19 years, eight of which he was ordained as a Buddhist Monk in the Burmese tradition. Jeff has shared practical life skills and ‘mind management’ in many areas of the world including Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe including Turkey. Jeff’s teachings are based on both ancient and modern ways of mind training especially, such as appreciation, forgiveness, “metta” unconditional love, concentration, awareness and wisdom. Basically, Jeff is offering us a ‘toolbox’ of techniques to be used both in formal, intensive meditation and in any situation during our busy and complicated daily life. His style is open, approachable, friendly and gentle yet very effective for the modern seeker of truth.
