image00141) SJBA will be organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 13 September to 18 October 2013. The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.

2) As another community service, SJBA will jointly organize with the Jawatankuasa Penduduk Subang Jaya-MPSJ Zon 1 to provide 1-day Traditional Chinese Medicine Service to the public FOC on 14thSeptember 2013, at the SS15 MPSJ Multi-purpose Hall from 9am to 3pm. Experienced Chinese Physicians qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment will give treatment to those with certain sicknesses and bodily ache/pain, including diagnosis, acupuncture or other treatment, and medicine. Members, devotees and members of the public are invited to come for this day of FOC Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment, which will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis up to a maximum of 80 patients only. Light refreshment / lunch will be provided for patients and helpers.

3) SJBA is organizing a Family Night of Joy and Fellowship on 14th September 2013 in conjunction with the Lantern Festival, to promote fellowship amongst our devotees. Activities include lantern procession round the temple playground and performances. Children from orphanages will be invited to join the fun. Members and devotees will get the opportunity to perform Dana by fulfilling the wishes of these underprivileged children. This is a Family Night, so please bring along your family and friends as well to participate in all the fun/joy activities planned for you. Dinner will be served at 7.30pm. You may also bring your food to share with others.

4) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2012 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He has served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

5) Today’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk at 11.30am (8/9/13) will be by Sis Yee Yean. The topic is “Respect for Parents”.

6) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “Perfecting Patience” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

3) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “What do Buddha’s awaken to? What do they wake up from?” by Ven. Achalo Bhikkhu (Brett Hansen). Ajahn Achalo was born in Brisbane Australia in 1972. He developed a sincere interest in Buddhist meditation at the age of twenty, and so at the age of 21 travelled to Thailand to study Buddhist religion and practice tradition in detail.

Ajahn Achalo was ordained as a Bhikkhu in July 1997, at Wat Nong Pah Pong, the monastery established by Venerable AjahnChah in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. Luang Por Liam, the Abbot of Wat Nong Pah Pong was his Venerable Preceptor.

For the past seventeen years Ajahn Achalo has lived and practiced in the branch monasteries associated within the lineage of Venerable Ajahn Chah, spending most of this time at Wat Marp Chan, in Rayong Province. He has also lived for periods of time at Abhayagiri monastery in California, USA, Amaravati Monastery in Hertfordshire, UK, and Buddhabodhivana Monastery in Victoria, Australia. His main teachers are Luang Por Liam, Luang Por Sumedho, TanAjahn Passano, Tan Ajahn Anan, Tan Ajahn Jayasaro and Tan Ajahn Kalyano.

Nyanaramsi from 26 May to 1 Jun, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day orientation followed by 6 lessons) followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 1 Jun to 4 Jun. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. If you wish to join in the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. 3) This morning, we are going to have a Dhamma Dialogue on “How do you see yourself as a Buddhist 10 years from now?” to be facilitated by Sayalay Paramacari. Sayalay Paramacari started practising Vipassana Meditation (Mahasi method) based on the Four Foundation of Mindfulness (Maha Satipatthana Sutta) since April 1994 in MBMC, Penang. She obtained a Diploma in Buddhism awarded by The Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka in 1996 and had had attended retreats of the Mahasi tradition in various places in Malaysia & abroad and also attended & exposed to retreats of other traditions in Malaysia and abroad over the years. 1994 – 2005 lived, cultivated in no less than 25 countries as a layperson before taking on the robes.

Sayalay was ordained in the year 2008 by Sayadaw U Pyin Nyar Nanda of Chanmyay Yeikhta, Myanmar in Pyin Oo Lwin, Upper Myanmar. In July 2012, while in India, took up Pabbaja ordination as a 10 precept with 75 sekhiya rules Samaneri with Ven Bhikkhuni Ratatungoda Saddha Sumana, abbess Sri Tusitaramaya in the district of Ratnapura in Sri Lanka.

Prior to becoming a nun, Sayalay had been attached to BSN, Singapore Airlines, Federal Express & EBSCO. She had also worked as a Freelance Trainer specializing in Social Skills, Performance Development, Situational Leadership, 8 Step Coaching for Leaders of all tiers, Effective Communication Skills, Targeted Selection (to select an honest, sincere & suitable employee for a specified job designation) & Building High Performance Team.

1) This year’s Wesak day falls on 24th May 2013. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 23rd May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Ven. Nyanaramsi, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Free Health Check and Buddhist films shows. We shall also officially launch our Building Extension Fund this Wesak to build our extension on the 5,000 sq. ft. of land next door, that was recently approved for SJBA. Since his retirement in 2001 from his engineering career, he has been sharing his understanding and experience with all who are keen to search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth and death, and all mental suffering to become more virtuous, noble and wiser human beings. He gives Dhamma Talks and holds meditation and Dhamma classes at various meditation centres.

1) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on this Sunday, 7th April 2013, 8am to 11am, to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

2) The Introduction to Buddhism course that is ongoing for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 19 April 2013. Today (5 April 2013) the topic is “Noble Eightfold Path” by by Uncle Vijaya. On next Friday (12th April, 2013) the topic is “Living a Life of Peace and Serenity” by Sis Chan Kah Yein.
