ANNOUNCEMENTS (23rd December, Sunday)

1) SJBA is organizing a New Year Eve Blessing Night cum Charity Countdown (in assistance of the Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Kurang Upaya) on December 31, 2012 (Monday) to usher in 2013. It is a good time for all of us to get together to reinforce our fellowship, show our care for the less fortunate, and at the same time to reflect on our deeds, and make aspirations to continue to improve ourselves in the upcoming year. The program shall begin at 8.30pm by Buddha Puja, Chanting & Blessings by the Members of the Sangha, sing-a-long Buddhist Hymns, Reflection on 2012 and making Aspirations for 2013, followed by refreshment, performances and countdown, accompanied by some fireworks, to usher in the New Year. (Lighting of Blessing Oil Lamp will commence at 9.00am at the Vihara).
Please bring your family and friends to join us to usher in a better year.

2) This morning’s (23rd Dec) Dhamma Talk is on “Mental Health” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

“The Development of Knowing and Seeing in Samatha and Vipassana Meditation.”
Knowing and Seeing in meditation is of great importance for a practitioner to wake up himself for the light of wisdom.   Ven. Vimokkha will teach those practitioners to really know the concept of right mindfulness and right concentration according to Mahasatipatthana and the Noble Eight-fold Path for the realization of the Four Noble Truths and the path to the emanacipation of mind. All practitioners will learn a lot of pragmatic approaches from Ven. Vimokkha’s experience of over 40 years for the practical development of knowing and seeing in Samatha and Vipassana Meditation.

Below is Phra Ajahn Wimoak’s brief bio data:
Ven. Vimoaka is the abbot of Wat Pipphalivanaram in Rayong, Bangkok.
He obtained his Doctorate (PhD) and MA in Buddhism from Mahachulangkorn University, Thailand.
Phra Ajahn Wimoaka has vast experience in Insight Meditation gained from practising under various meditation masters among them Luang Pu Kasspamurni, Luang Pu Tean, and many others.
Venerable has extensive experience in teaching Insight Meditation and has been engaged
by numerous organisations including Dhammasathan in Chulalongkorn University, Saladhamma Temple in Pathumthani, Ariyasom Temple in Sukhumvit and Booniveres Temple in Dhammasathan, among others.
He has designed and conducted the popular programme Development of Mindfulness and Awareness in the work place for large private corporations across Thailand.
He is currently writing a book entitle “Development of Mindfulness and Awareness for Insight Meditation”.
Ven. Ajahn Wimoak will conduct the meditation retreat with practical techniques for the development of Emptiness (Sunyata).
How to go into (the mind state) of Emptinesss.
How to wake up into (the mind state) of Emptinesss.
How to apply into (the mind state) of Emptinesss in our daily living.
Without Emptiness, one cannot know oneself. With the (the mind state) of Emptiness
the Buddha nature, Purity within us will arise and guide us.

1) This year’s Educare Program in SJBA will be held at SJBA Shrine Hall this Sunday, 9th December 2012, 9.00 am, to provide needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. Please note that there will be no Morning Puja Service this Sunday.

2) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat at SJBA will be held from 6th to 15th December 2012. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Sayadaw U Rewata and Ven Nyanaramsi. There will nightly Dhamma Talk, 8.30pm to 9.30pm, until 14th December 2012.

4) This morning, Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata will lead us in chanting, meditation and a short Dhamma Talk.

Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA from 2008 to now. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work.

3) This morning’s (25/11/12, 10am) Dhamma Talk “Forgiveness For families in Everyday Life – Communicating With Forgiveness” by Bro Jeff Oliver. Jeff Oliver is a dynamic and creative meditation teacher from Australia. He has been practicing vipassana (Awareness and Wisdom) meditation for 20 years, eight of which he was ordained as a Buddhist Monk in the Burmese Tradition. Jeff has shared practical life skills and ‘mind management’ in Malaysia for the last 15 years and in many areas of the world including Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe including Turkey.

Jeff’s ‘Plain English’ teachings are based on both ancient and modern ways of mind training such as appreciation, forgiveness, metta – unconditional love, concentration, awareness and wisdom. His style is open, approachable, friendly and gentle yet very effective for the modern seeker of truth.

3) The Fo Guang Shan Malaysia invites fellow Buddhists to their Buddhist Cultural & Dharma Blessing Function with a Triple Gem Refuge & Five Precepts Ceremony presided by Ven Hsing Yun (the founder of the Fo Guang Shan as well as their affiliated Buddha’s Light International). The event will be held at the Stadium Shah Alam on 24/11/12 (Sat), 7pm. Admission is by tickets (FOC) and the tickets can be obtained from SJBA Office. If you need bus transport, you may also register with Sis Lily.
