Buddha

1) There will  be a Dhamma Talk titled “The Path an Attainment of Ariya-hood on 6 April, Saturday, 8pm to 10pm, by Ven. Dr. Dhammapala. The Talk will highlight the ‘gradual process of the different stages of spiritual path and their abandonment of categories of defilements, and finally attainment of arahathood. Ven. Dr. Dhammapala has a PhD in Buddhist Study under the supervision of Ven. Dhammajoti n the University Hong Kong. He traveled frequently to conduct meditation retreats, Dhamma talks in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Currently, he is the Abbot of the Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre, Melaka, the Bodhvana Monastery in Sg. Pelek and the Centre of Mindfulness, Hong Kong.
2) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on 14 April, 8am to 11am in SJBA Shrine Hall to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. 
3) SJBA invite you and family and friends to a spiritual and mentally enriching morning at this Sunday’s Buddha Puja in SJBA Shrine Hall led by Venerable Indarathana, commencing at 9.15am with offering of lights, flowers and incense to the Buddha, chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings and Sharing of Merits. All are welcome.

1) Bro. (Datuk) Charlie Chia will continue with “Glimpses of Enlightenment Series” Talk this Friday, 28 September 2018, 8.30pm to 10pm at SJBA Shrine Hall.

2) There will be a special Dhamma Talk by Luang Pu Boonsong Thittasara in SJBA Shrine Hall on 30 September 2018 (Sunday), 8.30pm, followed by Breakfast Dana on 1 October and 2 October, 6.30am in SJBA. Luang Pu Boonsong Thittasara, 81 years old with 51 vassa, is the Abbot of Wat Santivanaram. He was once under the tutelage of Luang Pu Whaen (disciple of of Luang Pu Mun) and other famous meditation teachers. Luang Pu Boonsong Thittasara now teaches monks and lay devotees in the forest tradition.

3) All devotees are welcome to our Monday Metta Meditation session at SJBA Meditation Hall from 8.30pm to 9.45pm. This cultivation of metta focus on loving kindness to oneself, loved ones and all other beings. On every 1st Monday, our Resident Monk will be guiding the meditators especially the newcomers.
4) All devotees are welcome to have self-practice in Vipassana Meditation on Thursdays from 8.30pm to 9.45pm at our Meditation Hall.

5) There will be Day Retreat in SJBA during New Moon and Full Moon Days from 9am to 5pm. The Retreat is free and easy and participants can feel free to join in or leave any time. Vegetarian lunch will be provided.

2) SJBA is organising a potluck dinner for Mooncake Family Night on this Saturday, 22/9/2018, at 7.00pm. All are welcome. Please bring along your specialty dish. In line with SJBA’s efforts in promoting a caring and sharing community, we are inviting underprivileged children to join us in our celebration. We aim to fulfil the simple wishes of these children through our Children’s Wish Fulfillment program. If you wish to sponsor the items of these children wishes, please contact Sis. We encourage you to bring your family and friends (and lanterns too) to the Temple on this Mooncake Family Night.

Announcements (Thursday, 23 August 2018)

1) In conjunction with the 7th Lunar Month, SJBA is organising a Pattidana (Dedication of Merits) Ceremony this Sunday, 26 August 2018 for the departed ones. When those departed relatives and friends, who may been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence, become aware that their departed relatives performing meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can feel relief. If they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth can be transformed into a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform acts of merits for the departed ones. The program will start at 8.00am with the offering of flowers, candles and pure water, followed by Pindacara, chanting, Dhamma Talk, offering of requisites, dedication of merits to the departed ones and followed by Blessings by the Sangha and lunch dana.

2) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 61th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2018 (Friday). The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2016. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2018.

On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PT3, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year, conducted by the Members of the Sangha. .

1) SJBA will host a special Dhamma Talk on “Why the 4 Ariya Truths is the Most Important Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera this Saturday, 17 June 2017, 8.30pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera graduated from the University Malaya in 1971 and worked as an Electrical Engineer with the Public Works Department for 12 years before renouncing the home life. He was the Founder of the Vihara Buddha Gotama and is a Monastic Advisor of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia. He has written numerous books on Buddhism, eg. Return to the original Buddha’s Teachings, Message of the Buddha, Buddhist Monks’ Precepts, Liberation: Relevance of Sutta Vinaya, Only We Can Help Ourselves, etc

The Dhamma Talk this Sunday based on the very meaningful Dhammapada verse 204, will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Title of talk for this Sunday is “Contentment.” Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of SJBA Dhamma Committee. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand.

Announcements (Thursday, 20 April 2017)

1) The construction, renovation and upgrading works of SJBA Vihara is almost complete except for the sewage treatment plant. The ground floor toilets will also be refurbished soon. Final touch-up, rectification and clearing works are still in progress. Devotees are reminded to be mindful of own safety when inside the Vihara’s compound.
2) This year’s Wesak day falls on 10 May 2017. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 9 May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Ven. Nyanaramsi, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha.
From 11.00am to 2.30pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and treatment for devotees needing such services. 3) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (23 April, 10am) is on “The Promise: Do what you say, say what you do!” by Bro Mui Han. Bro Mui Han has been active in Buddhism since his school days. He was a former President of St. John’s Institution Buddhist Society KL, former EDSG Director in Persatuan Buddhis UPM (PBUPM), former committee member of Nalanda Buddhist Society, former Committee Member of Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia (BMSM) Youth Section and former member of Aloka Foundation Management Committee.

(2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 30th October 2016. Kathina is, traditionally, a Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of the 3-month Vassa.
The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (29th October 2016) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts administered by the Sangha at 7.30pm followed by Dhamma Talk, Procession, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.
On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.30am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, followed by Offering the Kathina Robe, offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

(2) This Sunday Dhamma Talk (25/9/16, 10am) will be given by Venerable Indarathana who is staying in SJBA Vihara for the Vassa. Venerable Indarathana was ordained as a novice monk at age 11 in Sri Lanka. After 10 years of monastic education and training at Sri Medankara Bhikku training Center, he received higher ordination as a fully ordained monk in 2007. He holds a Master degree in Buddhism at Kelaniya University and Bachelor degree of Law at University of Colombo. He is currently pursuing his masters of counseling at HELP University, Kuala Lumpur. He has been living in Malaysia since 2012 under the guidance of Chief Reverend Saranankara Maha Thera at Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist temple. As a Buddhist monk, he taught meditation and mindfulness practices and give counselling to people from different walks of life using the Buddha’s teachings

(3) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (25/9/16, 11.30 am) will be given by by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Sis Tan Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now a Dhamma committee member of SJBA.
