Announcements (Thursday, 15 June 2017)

1) SJBA will host a special Dhamma Talk on “Why the 4 Ariya Truths is the Most Important Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera this Saturday, 17 June 2017, 8.30pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera graduated from the University Malaya in 1971 and worked as an Electrical Engineer with the Public Works Department for 12 years before renouncing the home life. He was the Founder of the Vihara Buddha Gotama and is a Monastic Advisor of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia. He has written numerous books on Buddhism, eg. Return to the original Buddha’s Teachings, Message of the Buddha, Buddhist Monks’ Precepts, Liberation: Relevance of Sutta Vinaya, Only We Can Help Ourselves, etc
2) All devotees are welcome to our Monday Metta Meditation session at SJBA Meditation Hall from 8.30pm to 9.45pm. This cultivation of metta focus on loving kindness to oneself, loved ones and all other beings. On every 1st Monday, our Resident Monk will be guiding the meditators especially the newcomers.
3) There will be Day Retreat in SJBA during New Moon and Full Moon Days from 9am to 5pm. The Retreat is free and easy and participants can feel free to join in or leave any time. Vegetarian lunch will be provided.
4) SJBA invite you for a spiritual and mentally enriching morning at this Sunday’s Buddha Puja. The Puja will start at 9.15am with offerings of lights, flowers, incence to the Buddha, Chanrting, Dhamma Talk, Hymns and Guided Meditation. The Dhamma Talk this Sunday based on the very meaningful Dhammapada verse 204, will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Title of talk for this Sunday is “Contentment.” Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of SJBA Dhamma Committee. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand.

Announcements (Wednesday, 31 May 2017)

1) Severe flooding in Sri Lanka has affected around 575,000 people causing untold sufferings, thousands lost their homes and possessions and more than 200 lost their lives. A special religious service by the Sangha led by Ven. Saranankara will be held this Sunday, 4/6/17, 8.30pm – 10pm at SJBA Shrine Hall, for the flood victims. You are welcome to partake in this religious service.

Announcements (Thursday, 11 May 2017)

1) The construction, renovation and upgrading works of SJBA Vihara is almost complete except for the sewage treatment plant. The ground floor toilets will also be refurbished soon. Final touch-up, rectification and cleaning works are still in progress. Devotees are reminded to be mindful of own safety when inside the Vihara’s compound.
2) SJBA will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 21 May 2017 at 9.30am. The Agenda include receiving and adopting the Executive Committee’s Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts, and deliberation of other matters as deemed fit by the Assembly. You are cordially invited to join us.
3) SJBA Youth Section is organising its annual Teen Dhamma Camp with the theme “Square One: Back to Basic” and lots of fun-filled activities with good Dhamma values for teenagers (age 13 to 17). 6) SJBA is hosting a Talk by Ven. Wei Wu and Bro Kazal Barua on 15 May 2017, Monday, 8pm to 10pm. Ven. Wu from the Than Hsiang Temple, Penang, will talk on “Buddhists should support Buddhist Education at all levels”, as part of his Dhammaduta Tour to express gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the International Buddhist College (IBC) for supporting the IBC and to update on IBC’s progress and development and to encourage potential students to enrol with IBC. Bro Kazal will talk on “Scientific Approach to Buddhist Concept of Happiness”. All are welcome.
7) This Sunday’s (14/5/17) Buddha Puja will be led by Venerable Indarathana. From this Sunday onwards, our Sunday Puja will commence at 9.10am followed by chanting, meditation, Dhamma Talk, blessings and sharing of merits. Hymn singing will also resume this Sunday at 10.45am.

Kitchen: 15/12/16 to 10/3/17
Office, Library, Airwell area: 10/1/17 to 10/3/17
Please note that TCM, Metta and Vipassana Meditation, Yoga, Longevitology sessions in the respective Hall or rooms or Airwell Area will need to be temporarily closed during the above periods.
Other activities will go on as usual, eg. our regular Sunday Puja Service (English), New & Full Moon Chanting & Vegetarian Lunch, Breakfast & Lunch Dana for Monks and other activities using the Shrine Hall (no renovation in Shrine Hall except some cabling works, video system upgrade and relocating the sound system to the left).
Our Sunday Dhamma School will reopen on 9th April 2017 for existing and new Students.

2) SJBA will be organising a Meditation Retreat, conducted by SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi Mahathera, as follows:

Date : 15 to 19 April 2017 (Saturday to Wednesday)

Venue : Chin Swee Temple (Genting)

Meals : Vegetarian

Lodging : Twin sharing Room RM400, Single Room RM456 (subject to availability, all comes with attached bathroom and water heater)

Transportation : Bus (to and fro)

Yogis are required to take 9 precepts during the retreat and adhere to the rules and regulations of the retreat

3) This Sunday Puja (19/2/17, 9.30am) will be led by Ven. Indarathana followed by a short meditation and Dhamma Talk. Venerable Indarathana was ordained as a novice monk at age 11 in Sri Lanka. After 10 years of monastic education and training at Sri Medankara Bhikku training Center, he received higher ordination as a fully ordained monk in 2007. He holds a Master degree in Buddhism at Kelaniya University and Bachelor degree of Law at University of Colombo. He is currently pursuing his masters of counseling at HELP University, Kuala Lumpur. He has been living in Malaysia since 2012 under the guidance of Chief Reverend Saranankara Maha Thera at Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist temple. As a Buddhist monk, he taught meditation and mindfulness practices and give counselling to people from different walks of life using the Buddha’s teachings.

2) On this Chinese New Year Eve (27 January 2017) , SJBA’s Resident Monk, Venerable Indarathana will conduct a New Year Blessings for devotees at our Shrine Hall at 11pm. On the first day of Chinese New Year (28 January 2017) Ven. Indarathana will conduct New Year Blessings at 10am followed by lunch dana at 11am, and then another New Year Blessings Session at 12.30pm. If you wish to partake in this auspicious blessing service for a better year ahead, abundantly blessed, do come and join us.
In view of the ongoing construction and renovation works going on in SJBA Vihara, we have decided not to organise our annual Gong Xi Gong Xi Dinner in SJBA this year (earlier scheduled on 11 February 2017).
SJBA Youth Section members together with some Dhamma School children will be making house calls on 12 February 2017 to bring Chinese New Year greetings and songs, Buddhist hymns and good wishes to the hosts and family. The course run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm, conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.
(2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 30th October 2016. Kathina is, traditionally, a Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of the 3-month Vassa.
The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (29th October 2016) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts administered by the Sangha at 7.30pm followed by Dhamma Talk, Procession, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.
On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.30am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, followed by Offering the Kathina Robe, offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.
(3) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 29th December 2016 to 7th January 2017. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Pyinnyarnanda from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.
