Announcements (Thursday, 29 November 2018)

1) SJBA is organising the 12th Annual Educare Program in SJBA in aid of needy students, providing them with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 needy students will receive the school items on 9 December 2018 (9am). Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life.
This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of our members and devotees. If you wish to sponsor one or more students, please contact Sis. Lily 03-56348181, 56315299.

2) SJBA is organising the auspicious 28 Buddhas Puja beginning with an Inauguration Puja on 15 December 2018, 8.00pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall and the Grand 28 Buddhas Puja Ceremony on 1 January 2019, 6.15pm to 10.00pm.

From 16 December to 31 December 2018, there will be daily chanting during the weekdays’ morning from 8.00am to 11.00am and in the evening from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

On Saturdays and Sundays, morning chanting will be from 8.00am to 9.30am and evening chanting from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

Other details will be announced soon.

2) SJBA is organizing a 10-day Vipassana Meditation Retreat from 3 to 12 January 2019. The Retreat will be conducted by Sayadaw U Sobhita. Sayadaw U Sobhita is a highly respected meditation teacher at the renowned Chanmyay Meditation Centre, Yangon, Myanmar. He was born in 1951 and was fully ordained as a Bhikkhu by the Most Venerable Sayadawgyi U Janakabhivamsa in 1970. He studied the Dhamma under Sayadaw U Tejavanta, Sayadawgyi U Janakabhivamsa and other famous Sayadaws in Myanmar. In 1983, he practised Vipassana Meditation under the guidance of the late Mahasi Sayadaw. Since then, he has been teaching the Dhamma, especially meditation, to devotees in Myanmar and abroad.
Sayadaw U Sobhita will be assisted by Sayadaw U Pinnyarnanda, the Abbot of Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Pyin Oo Lwin branch, Myanmar.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony in SJBA will be held on Sunday, 11 November 2018. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on the Eve, 10 November 2018 at 8pm with Taking the Three Refuges, Dhamma Talk, Procession around the Vihara, Sharing of Merits and a light refreshment.

On Kathina Day, 11 November 2018, the Ceremony will start at 8.30am with with the Taking of the Three Refuges, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

1) There will be a special interest Talk on “Should A Person With Mental Illness Meditate” by Dr. Phang Cheng Kar (M.D.) this Sunday, 21 October, 2pm to 4pm at SJBA’s Multi-Purpose Hall (Basement). Dr. Phang is a consultant psychiatrist and mindfulness-based therapist at Sunway Medical Center. He developed the MINDFULGym which is a mindfulness-based stress reduction and wellness program. He is the President of the Malaysia Association for Mindfulness Practice & Research (MMPR) and KL Buddhist Mental Health Association.

Luang Pu Boonsong Thittasara, 81 years old with 51 vassa, is the Abbot of Wat Santivanaram. He was once under the tutelage of Luang Pu Whaen (disciple of of Luang Pu Mun) and other famous meditation teachers. Luang Pu Boonsong Thittasara now teaches monks and lay devotees in the forest tradition.

In line with SJBA’s efforts in promoting a caring and sharing community, we are inviting underprivileged children to join us in our celebration. 1) In conjunction with the 7th Lunar Month, SJBA is organising a Pattidana (Dedication of Merits) Ceremony on 26 August 2018 for the departed ones. When those departed relatives and friends, who may been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence, become aware that their departed relatives performing meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can feel relief. If they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth can be transformed into a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform acts of merits for the departed ones. The program will start at 8.00am with the offering of flowers, candles and pure water, followed by Pindacara, chanting, Dhamma Talk, offering of requisites, dedication of merits to the departed ones and followed by Blessings by the Sangha and lunch dana.

2) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 61th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2018 (Friday). The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2016. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2018.

On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PT3, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year, conducted by the Members of the Sangha. .
