Announcements (Thursday, 13 July 2017)

1) During the Vassa Period, Ven. Indarathana will lead in chanting the Dhammacakkappavattana every day, 7.30pm to 8.15pm. On Tuesday, the chanting will followed by Pali Chanting & Sutta Study.
2) All devotees are welcome to our Monday Metta Meditation session at SJBA Meditation Hall from 8.30pm to 9.45pm. This cultivation of metta focus on loving kindness to oneself, loved ones and all other beings. On every 1st Monday, our Resident Monk will be guiding the meditators especially the newcomers.
3) There will be Day Retreat in SJBA during New Moon and Full Moon Days from 9am to 5pm. The Retreat is free and easy and participants can feel free to join in or leave any time. Vegetarian lunch will be provided.
4) SJBA will be organising “What Buddhist Believe” – a course on the fundamental concepts of Buddhism over 9 consecutive Thursdays, beginning 3rd August 2017. This course will be based on the book of the same title, written by our late chief Ven K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Thero. As such, participants are encouraged to read this book prior to attending, to get a better understanding. To participate, please register with Sister Lily at SJBA Office.
5) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 60th Merdeka Day on 31st August 2017 (Thursday). The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2016. Announcements (Wednesday, 28 June 2017)

1) SJBA will be hosting An Evening of Q & A with Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera this Friday, 30 June 2017, 8.30pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera graduated from the University Malaya in 1971 and worked as an Electrical Engineer with the Public Works Department for 12 years before renouncing the home life. He was the Founder of the Vihara Buddha Gotama and is a Monastic Advisor of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia. He has written numerous books on Buddhism, eg. Return to the original Buddha’s Teachings, Message of the Buddha, Buddhist Monks’ Precepts, Liberation: Relevance of Sutta Vinaya, Only We Can Help Ourselves, etc.
2) On 8 July 2017, Saturday, 8.30pm to 10.00pm, SJBA will be making the invitation to Venerable Indarathana to enter Vassa (Rains Retreat) in SJBA. The program will include taking the 3 Refuges and observe the 5 Precepts, formal invitation to Venerable Indarathana to stay in SJBA for the 3-month Vassa, determination by the Venerable, offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha followed by chanting and sharing of merits. 4) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (10am, 11 June 2017) will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Title of talk for this Sunday is “Contentment.” Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of SJBA Dhamma Committee. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand.

Announcements (Thursday, 11 May 2017)

1) The construction, renovation and upgrading works of SJBA Vihara is almost complete except for the sewage treatment plant. The ground floor toilets will also be refurbished soon. Final touch-up, rectification and cleaning works are still in progress. Devotees are reminded to be mindful of own safety when inside the Vihara’s compound.
2) SJBA will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 21 May 2017 at 9.30am. The Agenda include receiving and adopting the Executive Committee’s Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts, and deliberation of other matters as deemed fit by the Assembly. You are cordially invited to join us.
3) SJBA Youth Section is organising its annual Teen Dhamma Camp with the theme “Square One: Back to Basic” and lots of fun-filled activities with good Dhamma values for teenagers (age 13 to 17). 6) SJBA is hosting a Talk by Ven. Wei Wu and Bro Kazal Barua on 15 May 2017, Monday, 8pm to 10pm. Ven. Wu from the Than Hsiang Temple, Penang, will talk on “Buddhists should support Buddhist Education at all levels”, as part of his Dhammaduta Tour to express gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the International Buddhist College (IBC) for supporting the IBC and to update on IBC’s progress and development and to encourage potential students to enrol with IBC. Bro Kazal will talk on “Scientific Approach to Buddhist Concept of Happiness”. All are welcome.
7) This Sunday’s (14/5/17) Buddha Puja will be led by Venerable Indarathana. From this Sunday onwards, our Sunday Puja will commence at 9.10am followed by chanting, meditation, Dhamma Talk, blessings and sharing of merits. Hymn singing will also resume this Sunday at 10.45am.

Announcements (Wednesday, 1 March 2017)

1) As part of our effort to upgrade the facilities of SJBA Vihara to provide better environment and support services for our members and devotees, in addition to building the new block, the following places will be renovated on the dates as follows:
Kitchen: 15/12/16 to 10/3/17
Office, Library, Airwell area: 10/1/17 to 10/3/17
Please note that TCM, Metta and Vipassana Meditation, Yoga, Longevitology sessions in the respective Hall or rooms or Airwell Area will need to be temporarily closed during the above periods.
Other activities will go on as usual, eg. our regular Sunday Puja Service (English), New & Full Moon Chanting & Vegetarian Lunch, Breakfast & Lunch Dana for Monks and other activities using the Shrine Hall (no renovation in Shrine Hall except some cabling works, video system upgrade and relocating the sound system to the left).
Our Sunday Dhamma School will reopen on 9th April 2017 for existing and new Students.

2) SJBA will be organising a Meditation Retreat, conducted by SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi Mahathera, as follows:

Date : 15 to 19 April 2017 (Saturday to Wednesday)

Venue : Chin Swee Temple (Genting)

Meals : Vegetarian

Lodging : Twin sharing Room RM400, Single Room RM456 (subject to availability, all comes with attached bathroom and water heater)

Transportation : Bus (to and fro)

Yogis are required to take 9 precepts during the retreat and adhere to the rules and regulations of the retreat

3) This Sunday Puja (5/3/17, 9.30am) will be led by Ven. Indarathana followed by a short meditation and Dhamma Talk. Venerable Indarathana was ordained as a novice monk at age 11 in Sri Lanka. After 10 years of monastic education and training at Sri Medankara Bhikku training Center, he received higher ordination as a fully ordained monk in 2007. He holds a Master degree in Buddhism at Kelaniya University and Bachelor degree of Law at University of Colombo. He is currently pursuing his masters of counseling at HELP University, Kuala Lumpur. He has been living in Malaysia since 2012 under the guidance of Chief Reverend Saranankara Maha Thera at Sentul Sri Lanka Buddhist temple. As a Buddhist monk, he taught meditation and mindfulness practices and give counselling to people from different walks of life using the Buddha’s teachings

Course1) SJBA new course on “What Buddhists Believe” will be on every Friday, 8.30pm until 23rd Aug 2013 at our Shrine Hall. This Course covers the Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism. The Course will be conducted by Bro Ananda Fong and Bro Tan Siang Chye. On this coming Friday (19/7/13) Bro Ananda will discuss on “Rebirth : I have been here before” (Note: Topic on 12/7/13 is “Saint & Sinner – What makes One….” by Bro Ananda Fong)

2) SJBA Sunday Dhamma School is organising a Food & Fun Fair on 14/7/13 today to help raise funds for SJBA Temple Building Extension. Coupons can be purchased at SJBA office. Your support and dana is very much appreciated.

3) SJBA is inviting Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata on 22nd July 2013 (Monday), Full Moon Day, 7.30pm to enter Vassa in SJBA. The program will include taking the 3 Refuges and observe the 5 Precepts, formal invitation to the Sangha Members to stay in SJBA for the 3-month Vassa (so that we can organise the Kathina), determination by the Sangha, offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha followed by sharing of merits. Members and devotees are invited to witness this Vassa Entry Ceremony (which also commemorate the First Sermon (Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta by the Buddha) and also to participate in the 5th Day Vassa Chanting on 27th July 2013, Saturday, 7.30pm, to commemorate the day the Buddha taught the Anattalakkhana Sutta to His first 5 disciples of the Buddha attained Arahantship after listening to this sermon.

4) Our Mandarin Puja Service will be from 11.30am to 12.30pm today (14th July) with a Dhamma Talk on “Buddhist Etiquette” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

5) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “FROM PERCEPTION TO DECEPTION” which relates how easily we are fooled by our perception of sensory objects (“illusion”) and by our own memory, imagination and expectation (“delusion”), and how we sometimes readily fool ourselves and believe in our own self-deception. Our Speaker, Brother Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective.

Currently, Bro. Billy offers talks, seminars, workshops and professional training programs to Buddhist community centers and charity organizations.
