Announcements (Thursday, 6 December 2018)

1) SJBA is organising the 12th Annual Educare Program in SJBA in aid of needy students, providing them with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 needy students will receive the school items on 9 December 2018 (9am). Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM108.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life.
This noble task can be achieved with the continuous support of our members and devotees. If you wish to sponsor one or more students, please contact Sis. Lily 03-56348181, 56315299.
The Educare Program will be held in SJBA Shrine Hall. Hence the Sunday Puja will be off.

2) SJBA is organising the auspicious 28 Buddhas Puja beginning with an Inauguration Puja on 15 December 2018, 8.00pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall and the Grand 28 Buddhas Puja Ceremony on 1 January 2019, 6.15pm to 10.00pm.

From 16 December to 31 December 2018, there will be daily chanting during the weekdays’ morning from 8.00am to 11.00am and in the evening from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

On Sundays, morning chanting will be from 8.00am to 9.30am and evening chanting from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

Other details will be announced soon.

3) SJBA is organizing a 10-day Vipassana Meditation Retreat from 3 to 12 January 2019. The Retreat will be conducted by Sayadaw U Sobhita. Sayadaw U Sobhita is a highly respected meditation teacher at the renowned Chanmyay Meditation Centre, Yangon, Myanmar. He was born in 1951 and was fully ordained as a Bhikkhu by the Most Venerable Sayadawgyi U Janakabhivamsa in 1970. He studied the Dhamma under Sayadaw U Tejavanta, Sayadawgyi U Janakabhivamsa and other famous Sayadaws in Myanmar. In 1983, he practised Vipassana Meditation under the guidance of the late Mahasi Sayadaw. Since then, he has been teaching the Dhamma, especially meditation, to devotees in Myanmar and abroad.
Sayadaw U Sobhita will be assisted by Sayadaw U Pinnyarnanda, the Abbot of Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Pyin Oo Lwin branch, Myanmar.

3) SJBA invite you and family and friends to a spiritual and mentally enriching morning at this Sunday’s Buddha Puja commencing at 9.15am with offering of lights, flowers and incense to the Buddha, chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings and Sharing of Merits.

Announcements (Thursday, 2 Nov 2017)

1) All devotees are welcome to our Monday Metta Meditation session at SJBA Meditation Hall from 8.30pm to 9.45pm. This cultivation of metta focus on loving kindness to oneself, loved ones and all other beings. On every 1st Monday, our Resident Monk will be guiding the meditators especially the newcomers.

2) There will be Day Retreat in SJBA during New Moon and Full Moon Days from 9am to 5pm. The Retreat is free and easy and participants can feel free to join in or leave any time. Vegetarian lunch will be provided.

image00141) This Sunday Puja Service will be off due to our Shrine Hall being used for the Educare Program. This year is the 11th anniversary of the Educare Program in SJBA. For the last 10 years, we have been providing needy students with school items to start the new school term. About 500 needy students will each receive a full set of school items which consist of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc costing about RM108. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture to show our care and concern to the poor students. We hope that through this simple by sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life.
2) Due to the building extension and renovation works in SJBA Vihara, this year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul from 29 December 2016 to 7 January 2017. The Retreat will be conducted by Sayadaw U Pyinnyarnanda from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. 3) SJBA is organising a 28 Buddha’s Puja Ceremony on 7 January 2017, 7pm to 10pm, which will give everyone the opportunity to make individual offerings to all 28 past Buddha who appeared before (and include) the present Buddha, Gautama Buddha. This great ceremony invokes one’s affinity with the infinite virtues of Buddha’s by reciting and recollecting the 28 Buddha’s names and virtues. This brings great blessings for the people who partake in the Ceremony. Recollection of the Buddha’s virtues help purify one’s mind and may even lead one to the attainment of enlightenment.
Traditionally this 28 Buddha’s Puja is performed to bring longevity, beauty, good health, happiness, prosperity, unity and harmony of family as well as success in one’s career or business and excellence in children’s education. 4) As part of our effort to upgrade the facilities of SJBA Vihara to provide better environment and support services for our members and devotees, in addition to building the new block, the following places will be renovated on the dates as follows:
Meeting Room, TCM Room, Room M1 & M2 and Sima Hall: 23/11 to 24/12/16
Meditation Hall: 28/11 to 27/12/16
Kitchen: 15/12/16 to 10/3/17
Office, Library, Airwell area: 10/1/17 to 10/3/17
Please note that TCM, Metta and Vipassana Meditation, Yoga, Longevitology sessions in the respective Hall or rooms or Airwell Area will need to be temporarily closed during the above periods.
Our Sunday Dhamma School will resume on 12/2/17.
Other activities will go on as usual, eg. Educare, SDS Metta Retreat, 28 Buddha Puja as well as our regular Sunday Puja Service (English), New & Full Moon Chanting & Vegetarian Lunch, Breakfast & Lunch Dana for Monks and other activities using the Shrine Hall (no renovation in Shrine Hall except some cabling works, video system upgrade and relocating the sound system to the left).
4) The Wednesday’s night of Spiritual Cultivation will be off for 5 weeks and will resume on 14 December 2016.

image00141) The Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Program in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association will end this Sunday. As part of the closing program, the Buddhist novice nuns will be led by members of the Sangha to go for alms round (pindacara) starting 8am, along the route from SJBA Vihara, crossing the overhead pedestrian bridge, walking along Jalan SS14/2 to the SS14/2 shop-lots area and then back to SJBA Vihara again at 10am. Offering of alms (pindapatta) is a practice since the time of the Buddha for devotees to offer food and medicine to the monastics. In return the monastics provide guidance to the laypeople on the Buddha Dhamma thus forging a symbiotic relationship.

Members and devotees are invited to partake in this meaningful and meritorious deed this Sunday. Thereafter, the program will include community reflection on the significance of pindapatta & the field of merits, lunch dana and blessings. Members and devotees are also invited to invite to witness the closing ceremony at 2pm at SJBA Shrine Hall.

1) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Bimage0014uddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program is sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated.

Members and devotees are welcome to witness the “Pabbajja or Going Forth Ceremony” this Sunday commencing at 9am with Morning Puja Service, speeches by SJBA President, Ven. Saranankara and Ven. Dhammapala followed by the Pabbajja ceremony and lunch dana for the Sangha.

image00141) The Intermediate Course on Buddhism will end today, Friday, 24 October with the topic on “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health” by Bro. Datuk Charlie Chia.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on this Sunday, 26th October 2014. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (25th October 2014) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) There will be a Dhamma Talk on “Maintaining Sanity in a Fast-paced World” by Ven. S. Pemaratana Thero at SJBA Shrine Hall on this Tuesday, 28 October, 8.30pm to 10pm. Ven. Pemaratana is the Chief Abbot of Pittsburgh Buddhist Centre, USA. He received his higher ordination in 1997. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Buddhist Studies from the University of Singapore. He has lectured at the University of Peradenitya as well as the Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore. He conducts meditation workshop at his Centre and provides spiritual counseling to help people deal with challenging issues of life. In 2008, he was awarded the Haruki Award by the Transcultural Society for Clinical Meditation, Japan for his research on Meditation and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
