Course1) SJBA new course on “What Buddhists Believe” will be on every Friday, 8.30pm until 23rd Aug 2013 at our Shrine Hall. This Course covers the Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism. The Course will be conducted by Bro Ananda Fong and Bro Tan Siang Chye. On this coming Friday (19/7/13) Bro Ananda will discuss on “Rebirth : I have been here before” (Note: Topic on 12/7/13 is “Saint & Sinner – What makes One….” by Bro Ananda Fong)

2) SJBA Sunday Dhamma School is organising a Food & Fun Fair on 14/7/13 today to help raise funds for SJBA Temple Building Extension. Coupons can be purchased at SJBA office. Your support and dana is very much appreciated.

3) SJBA is inviting Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata on 22nd July 2013 (Monday), Full Moon Day, 7.30pm to enter Vassa in SJBA. The program will include taking the 3 Refuges and observe the 5 Precepts, formal invitation to the Sangha Members to stay in SJBA for the 3-month Vassa (so that we can organise the Kathina), determination by the Sangha, offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha followed by sharing of merits. Members and devotees are invited to witness this Vassa Entry Ceremony (which also commemorate the First Sermon (Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta by the Buddha) and also to participate in the 5th Day Vassa Chanting on 27th July 2013, Saturday, 7.30pm, to commemorate the day the Buddha taught the Anattalakkhana Sutta to His first 5 disciples of the Buddha attained Arahantship after listening to this sermon.

4) Our Mandarin Puja Service will be from 11.30am to 12.30pm today (14th July) with a Dhamma Talk on “Buddhist Etiquette” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

5) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “FROM PERCEPTION TO DECEPTION” which relates how easily we are fooled by our perception of sensory objects (“illusion”) and by our own memory, imagination and expectation (“delusion”), and how we sometimes readily fool ourselves and believe in our own self-deception. Our Speaker, Brother Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective.

Currently, Bro. Billy offers talks, seminars, workshops and professional training programs to Buddhist community centers and charity organizations.

3)This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on ‘The Importance of mindfulness/heedfulness to cope with Life’s problems/suffering’. Human sufferings are very real and so many people are afflicted by it every now and then. Some of them can be very traumatic with suicidal tendencies. Grief, sorrow, lamentation, fear, worries and anxieties leading to severe depressionand sadness, etc are very common nowadays. Some consult doctors, psychiatrist, mediums, feng shui masters, etc. Some seek GOD, religions and friends for help but are they really effective? Maybe some are but most of them are only temporary solutions which may not be really effective at all. Can meditation together with medication help? Our Speaker, Bro. Teoh Kian Koon, graduated from University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. He had been a spiritual practitioner cum meditator since 1971. Since 2001, he has been sharing his understanding and experiences with serious and keen spiritual practitioners and others who are keen in their search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth, aging, sickness and death and all mental suffering

image00141) The Selangor State Government with the cooperation of Selangor Buddhist Development Committee and support of various Buddhist groups in Selangor, including Subang Jaya Buddhist Association will be organising the State Level Wesak Celebration as detailed below:

Venue Auditorium Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam

The program will be very interesting and include musical and dance performances by Asia Musical Production, Temple of Fine Arts, FGSM, etc.

3) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “What do Buddha’s awaken to? What do they wake up from?” by Ven. Achalo Bhikkhu (Brett Hansen). Ajahn Achalo was born in Brisbane Australia in 1972. He developed a sincere interest in Buddhist meditation at the age of twenty, and so at the age of 21 travelled to Thailand to study Buddhist religion and practice tradition in detail.

Ajahn Achalo was ordained as a Bhikkhu in July 1997, at Wat Nong Pah Pong, the monastery established by Venerable AjahnChah in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. Luang Por Liam, the Abbot of Wat Nong Pah Pong was his Venerable Preceptor.

For the past seventeen years Ajahn Achalo has lived and practiced in the branch monasteries associated within the lineage of Venerable Ajahn Chah, spending most of this time at Wat Marp Chan, in Rayong Province. He has also lived for periods of time at Abhayagiri monastery in California, USA, Amaravati Monastery in Hertfordshire, UK, and Buddhabodhivana Monastery in Victoria, Australia. His main teachers are Luang Por Liam, Luang Por Sumedho, TanAjahn Passano, Tan Ajahn Anan, Tan Ajahn Jayasaro and Tan Ajahn Kalyano.

Ajahn Achalo is now the Abbot of Wat Anandagiri in Petchabun in Thailand

1) This year’s Wesak day falls on 24th May 2013. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 23rd May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha. From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Free Health Check and Buddhist films shows. We plan to officially launch our Building Extension Fund this Wesak to build our extension on the 5,000 sq. ft. of land next door, that was recently approved for SJBA. We need around 200 volunteer helpers to help organize all these activities. Please register yourselves by writing your name at our Notice Board or call Sis. Lily at Tel. 03-56315299.

2) SJBA is organising an Introduction to Meditation Course conducted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi from 26 May to 1 Jun, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day orientation followed by 6 lessons) followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 1 Jun to 4 Jun. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. If you wish to join in the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. Lily at 03-56348181.

4) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “Renunciation” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

Kian Koon graduated from the University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. Since his retirement in 2001 from his engineering career, he has been sharing his understanding and experience with all who are keen to search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth and death, and all mental suffering to become more virtuous, noble and wiser human beings. He gives Dhamma Talks and holds meditation and Dhamma classes at various meditation centres.

4) This morning, Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata will lead us in chanting and meditation, followed by a Dhamma Talk. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work.

ANNOUNCEMENTS (17th March, Sunday)

1) As another community service for our members and devotees with SJBA arranging with 2 experienced Chinese Physicians qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment to give treatment to those with certain sicknesses and bodily ache/pain, every Saturday, 9am to 12pm, at SJBA. The fees are chargeable at RM30.00 which include the diagnosis, acupuncture or other treatment, and medicine. Those who cannot afford the fees can apply for Humanitarian Aid at SJBA Office.

2) SJBA will be organizing the Introduction to Buddhism course from 1 March to 19 April 2013. The course will run for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. All are welcome. No pre-registration is required. 3) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on 7th April 2013, 8am to 11am, to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

4) SJBA’s Puja Session in Mandarin is from 11.30am to 12.30pm every Sunday, at SJBA Shrine Hall. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk will be given by Ven. Nyanaramsi.

5) This morning’s Dhamma Talk will be given by SJBA’s Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Bhante spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven. Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara. He also travel frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia and China to conduct meditation retreats
