Educare) This year is the 11th anniversary of the Educare Program in SJBA. For the last 10 years, we have been providing needy students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 needy students will receive the school items on 4 December 2016. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consist of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc costing about RM108. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture to show our care and concern to the poor students. We hope that through this simple by sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. You may help sponsor one or more students at RM108 per student. Please call Sis Lily at 03-56348181.
2) Due to the building extension and renovation works in SJBA Vihara, this year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul from 29 December 2016 to 7 January 2017. The Retreat will be conducted by Sayadaw U Pyinnyarnanda from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the Retreat as yogi or wish to be a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181.
3) SJBA is organising a 28 Buddha’s Puja Ceremony on 7 January 2017, 7pm to 10pm, which will give everyone the opportunity to make individual offerings to all 28 past Buddha who appeared before (and include) the present Buddha, Gautama Buddha. This great ceremony invokes one’s affinity with the infinite virtues of Buddha’s by reciting and recollecting the 28 Buddha’s names and virtues. This brings great blessings for the people who partake in the Ceremony. Recollection of the Buddha’s virtues help purify one’s mind and may even lead one to the attainment of enlightenment.
Traditionally this 28 Buddha’s Puja is performed to bring longevity, beauty, good health, happiness, prosperity, unity and harmony of family as well as success in one’s career or business and excellence in children’s education. For more information, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181.
4) The Wednesday’s night of Spiritual Cultivation will be off for 5 weeks and will resume on 14 December 2016.

Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of SJBA Dhamma Committee. 5) The title of this Sunday’s Dhamma Talk is “Living to benefit” by Bro Ong Beng Chung. Bro Beng Chung is the Founder of SJBA Youth Section in 1993. He was the former President of UKM Buddhist Fellowship. He sees himself as a person who loves simplicity and clarity in all areas of life. When he’s in the right mode, he prefers to explore the mind in meditation retreats and in daily life through Awareness. Meditation to him, is mental cultivation, as a tool in exploring the mind to realise Realities and eventually, the Unconditioned, as taught by the Buddha.

Special Puja Service in Honour of Most Venerable Sayadawgyi U Panditabhivamsa

IMG-20160418-WA0022A Special Puja Service in honour of the Most Venerable Sayadawgyi U Panditabhivamsa (who passed away on 16 April) will be held in SJBA as follows:

Date: 22 April 2016 (Friday)

Time: 10.00am to 11.00am

Venue: SJBA Dana Hall

The Special Puja will be led by Sayadaw U Rewata

Sayādawgyi U Paṇḍitābhivaṃsa has contributed tremendously to SJBA’s early Dhammaduta effort. Many SJBA’s early members learned the Dhamma, especially vipassana meditation from the Venerable Monks coming from his Paṇḍitārāma Meditation Centre, Yangon, Myanmar.

Sayadawgyi U Panditabhivamsa has been one of the foremost masters of Vipassana meditation. He has taught many, in the East and West, the Mahāsi tradition of Vipassana meditation.

At the age of 20, Sayadaw was ordained as a Bhikkhu on April 25,1992.
In 2010, Sayadaw stayed in Thailand to teach Vipassana meditation for students and monks about 1 year.
From 2013 to March 2016, Sayadaw stayed in Lunas Hermitage, Kedah.

image00141) For this Friday’s (10 April) Introduction to Buddhism Course, the topic is “Highway to Happiness by Uncle Vijaya. On next Friday (17 April 2015), the topic is “Reaching Out in Harmony” by Datuk Charlie Chia. The session will start at 8.30pm to 10pm at SJBA Shrine Hall. All are welcome.

2) SJBA’s building extension (a new 4-storey block with basement) has officially commenced works on 8 March 2015. Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. The donors can write their name and sign on the bricks which will be used for the construction of the new block. For further information, please call Sis Lily at 01-56348181.

3) Another Temple Building Extension Fund Raising effort is through “Imee Ooi Concert – Sound of Wisdom” on 1 August 2015, Saturday, 3.00pm at Istana Budaya. Sis Imee Ooi of “The Chant of Metta” fame as well as many other highly-praised musical works will be making a live appearance in her debut concert. A teacher, composer, producer, director and singer, Imee is serving the Dhamma with her extraordinary talent and voice. She is a Buddhist practitioner that adheres to the teachings of loving kindness, peace and harmony. Founder of IMM Musicworks in 1997, she has released more than 50 albums and has produced many musical works for many Buddhist societies and organizations. Her mission is in singing messages of peace, harmony and compassion or simply bringing healing sounds to her listeners through music.

Tickets are now available in SJBA (at RM100, RM150, RM200, RM250 and RM350). You can now have the opportunity to support the development of local Buddhist musical talents and performance arts as well as contributing to the building extension of SJBA Vihara.

4) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk “The forests are peaceful, why aren’t you?” by Ven. Dr. Sangharatana Nayaka Maha Thera on 14th April 2015, 8.30pm. Venerable Sangharatana is the Chief Abbot of the Pitaramba Temple in
Bentota, Sri Lanka and the founder of the Bentota Buddhist Social Welfare Institution. Through these organizations, village socio-welfare programs such as English library, free tuition classes, training programs for pre-school teachers and interest free micro credit for cottage industries and entrepreneurship are conducted to uplift the rural community.

Soon after the Tsunami disaster in 2004, he worked for the affected people in Bentota and built a housing scheme for them. Then after he opened one daycare center for the benefit of needy people around there under the name of Paramita.

The Venerable has authored several books. Amongst them are How to See the Living Buddha (poems), Maharashta Buddhist in India and Buddhism – The Thirst Quencher.

5) Our Puja Session in Mandarin (11.30am-12.30pm) will be off until 19 April 2015. 6) This year’s Wesak day falls on 3rd May 2015. Our Wesak Celebration will start on Wesak Eve, 2nd May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation.

On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha.

On this Wesak Day, everyone has the opportunity to do good deeds of great merits by contributing to build our temple extension.

From 11.00am to 2.00pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation & Organ Pledge Campaign, Free Health Check.

We need around 200 volunteer helpers to help organize all these activities. Please

Lodging: At San Poh Temple, by donation

SJBA will charter a bus for this retreat. The bus will pick up yogis at SJBA on the 8 May, Friday, leaving SJBA 7.30am SHARP.
Yogis are required to observe the 9 precepts during this Retreat. Those unable to take 9 precepts are to inform the organiser in advance and make own arrangement for light dinner.
A contribution of RM150 per yogi is required to defray the running cost for meals, transportation & donation to the San Poh Temple for the usage of the premise. Individual donation to the temple is also welcome but optional.

participants of the last Cameron Highlands Retreat) will be accepted for this Retreat, first-come-first-serve basis.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (5 April, 10.00am) will be given by Venerable Dhammapala. Venerable. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

3) Buddha Puja in Mandarin (11.30am) will resume today (6 April 2014). The Dhamma Talk in Mandarin today (at 11.30am) is on “Faith” by Chew Yee Yean. Sis Chew Yee Yean graduated from UKM. She is now working as a Senior Biochemist at UMMC.

4) The Dhamma Talk in English this morning (6 April 2014) will be given by SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity for stray animals. She also gives public talks on ways to lead a more spiritually fulfilling life. To date, she has written eight books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all, for free distribution. With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi followed by Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

5) This morning’s (23/2/14) Dhamma Talk in English (at 10.00am) is on “The Universal Sine Curve” by Bro Charlie Chia. Bro. Charlie Chia is a much sought after Dhamma who focuses on practical Buddhist daily living, mind development, main Buddhist doctrines and motivational & positive thinking. He has conducted many Buddhist Courses, training camps and retreats. He is credited with the formation of many Buddhist organisations such as Buddhist Missionary Society Youth Section, Kota Tinggi Buddhist Society, Metta Lodge Johor Bahru and Kuantan Buddhist Association. He was a former President of Bandar Utama Buddhist Society , University of Technology Malaysia Buddhist Society, Buddhist Missionary Society Youth Section, Kuantan Buddhist Association and former Honorary Secretary of Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia.
