image00141) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 18th to 27th December 2015. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Venerable Sayadaw Pyinnyarnanda and our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. If you wish to join in the retreat as yogi or wish to a helper or sponsor food for the monks and yogis, and other expenses during the Retreat, please contact our Office Administrator.

2) This year SJBA Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 6 December 2015 to provide poor students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items on 6 December 2015. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. 3) SJBA is organising this New Year Eve with a 8-course Fun & Fund Raising Dinner in SJBA Vihara. SJBA brings to you the best from Sekinchan, a sumptuous dinner prepared by the famous Hao Xiang Chi restaurant, Sekinchan at RM800 per table/RM80 per pax. The evening shall start with Puja at 7.00pm. During dinner there will be performances, karaoke competition with prizes and lucky draws.

5) The Dhamma Talk in English this Sunday (15 November 2015, 10am) is on “The Four Noble Truth” by SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara. He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

image00141. In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, SJBA is organizing a Mooncake Family Night on 26th September 2015 (Saturday). It will be a fun-filled night to celebrate with family. In line with SJBA’s effort in promoting a caring and compassionate community, we have invited children from Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Kurang Upaya (P3KU) to join us in our celebration. Please remember to bring your lantern along for the traditional lantern procession round the temple to end the night. 4. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (27/9/15, 10am) will be given by Ven. Mahacara who is residing in SJBA for the Vassa (Rains Retreat). During this 3-month period, Venerable Mahacara will be cultivating himself in SJBA Vihara as well as teaching devotees the Dhamma.

The course will run for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm, conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Dr. Chan Kah Yein and Datuk Charlie Chia. All are welcome. 2) SJBA’s building extension (a new 4-storey block with basement) has officially commenced works on 8 March 2015. Amongst various ways to raise funds for the construction of the new block, SJBA has an on-going “Donate a Brick” campaign. Each brick is RM100. 3) Another Temple Building Extension Fund Raising effort is through “Imee Ooi Concert – Sound of Wisdom” on 1 August 2015, Saturday, 3.00pm at Istana Budaya. Sis Imee Ooi of “The Chant of Metta” fame as well as many other highly-praised musical works will be making a live appearance in her debut concert. A teacher, composer, producer, director and singer, Imee is serving the Dhamma with her extraordinary talent and voice. She is a Buddhist practitioner that adheres to the teachings of loving kindness, peace and harmony. Founder of IMM Musicworks in 1997, she has released more than 50 albums and has produced many musical works for many Buddhist societies and organizations. Her mission is in singing messages of peace, harmony and compassion or simply bringing healing sounds to her listeners through music. Tickets are now available in SJBA (at RM100, RM150, RM200, RM250 and RM350). You can now have the opportunity to support the development of local Buddhist musical talents and performance arts as well as contributing to the building extension of SJBA Vihara.

4) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on 12 April 2015, Sunday, 8am to 11am to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

5) SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi will be conducting a Meditation Reteat in Cameron Highland as follows:

SJBA will charter a bus for this retreat. The bus will pick up yogis at SJBA on the 8 May, Friday, leaving SJBA 7.30am SHARP.
Yogis are required to observe the 9 precepts during this Retreat. Those unable to take 9 precepts are to inform the organiser in advance and make own arrangement for light dinner.
A contribution of RM150 per yogi is required to defray the running cost for meals, transportation & donation to the San Poh Temple for the usage of the premise. Individual donation to the temple is also welcome but optional.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in English (5 April, 10.00am) will be given by Venerable Dhammapala. Venerable. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations.

The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. The session this Friday (10 Oct) will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya and the topic is “Living, Dying, Going Beyond”. On next Friday (17 Oct), the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature” by Bro. Charlie Chia.

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 26th October 2014. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (25th October 2014) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. 6) This Sunday’s (12/10/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk on “Developing Knowledge” will be given by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

7) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Meeting with Uncertainty” by Chew Yee Yean. Sis Chew Yee Yean graduated from UKM. She is now working as a Senior Biochemist at UMMC. 这个星期日的讲题是“如何面对变幻莫测的无常”, 讲师是周怡燕居士. 怡燕居士 毕业于马来西亚国民大学,她现今 在 马大医药中心担任高级生物化学师。在这十年以来,她志愿地帮忙与宣扬佛法等义务,希望能增进大家对佛法的认识与了解.

image00141) SJBA is celebrating the country’s 57th Merdeka Day next Sunday, 31st August 2014. The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2013. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2014. On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

2) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk “The Importance of Practising Daily Meditation” by Sayalay Susila, on 30 Aug 2014, Saturday, 8.30pm to 10pm. Sayalay Susila, a Malaysian, was ordained in 1991. She has practiced meditation intensively, under the guidance of various famous meditation teachers like Sayadaw U Pandita, Pa Auk Sayadaw, etc. She has also learned the Abhidhamma, ancient discourses and the Pali language from Pa Auk Sayadaw. Sayadaw Susila travelled extensively to teach meditation, the Abhidhamma and Sutta expositions.

7) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk in Mandarin by Bro Leong Kok Hing related to Buddhist Stamps, on 21 Sept, 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Bro Leong has previously served as the President and Secretary of YBAM for 16 years. He has held many portfolios in Buddhist societies such as the Chief Editor of Buddhist Digest, the Assistant Secretary of World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth, Fo Guang International Youth Director, Vice Principal of International Buddhist College and etc. At present, he is managing General Affairs of International Buddhist College and Phor Tay Chinese Secondary School in Penang. He was conferred with the Excellent Youth Award and Youth Leader Award from the Ministry of Youth. He has been collecting stamps which has Buddhist themes for 30 years. In the eighties, his stamps have been displayed in some major Buddhist exhibitions in Penang and Kuala Lumpur with “Buddhist Travel”as its theme. He was also invited for his solo in 1990, 1992 in Fo Guang Temple at Singapore and Taiwan.

11) This morning’s (17/8/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk in English is on “Looking Deeper into the Kalama Sutta (Buddhist Charter of Free Inquiry) by Dr. Chan Kah Yein. Sis Kah Yein holds a PhD in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity which provides neutering and vaccination subsidies for street animals. To date, she has written 8 books for
free distribution. Kah Yein believes in embracing simplicity and traveling light in life.

She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity for stray animals. She also gives public talks on ways to lead a more spiritually fulfilling life. To date, she has written eight books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all, for free distribution. With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

5) This morning’s (23/2/14) Dhamma Talk in English (at 10.00am) is on “The Universal Sine Curve” by Bro Charlie Chia. Bro. Charlie Chia is a much sought after Dhamma who focuses on practical Buddhist daily living, mind development, main Buddhist doctrines and motivational & positive thinking. He has conducted many Buddhist Courses, training camps and retreats. He is credited with the formation of many Buddhist organisations such as Buddhist Missionary Society Youth Section, Kota Tinggi Buddhist Society, Metta Lodge Johor Bahru and Kuantan Buddhist Association. He was a former President of Bandar Utama Buddhist Society , University of Technology Malaysia Buddhist Society, Buddhist Missionary Society Youth Section, Kuantan Buddhist Association and former Honorary Secretary of Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia.

This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Mind if the Forerunner” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Sis Tan Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now a Dhamma committee member of SJBA.

4) In conjunction with the Chinese New Year, the Puja Session in both English and Mandarin will be off on 2nd February 2014 and resume on 9th February 2014.

5) This morning Dhamma Talk (26th January 2014, at 11.30m) in Mandarin on“Mind if the Forerunner” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Sis Tan Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now a Dhamma committee member of SJBA.

6) This morning’s (26th Jan 2014) Dhamma Talk is on “When Self Comes to Mind” by Bro Billy Tan. Bro. Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective

image00141) SJBA new course on “What Buddhists Believe” will be on every Friday, 8.30pm until 23rd Aug 2013 at our Shrine Hall. This Course covers the Fundamental Concepts of Buddhism. The Course will be conducted by Bro Ananda Fong and Bro Tan Siang Chye. On this coming Friday (26/7/13) Bro Siang Chye will discuss on “The Happiness Recipe” (Note: Topic on 19/7/13 is ” Rebirth ; I have been here before” by Bro Ananda Fong)

2) SJBA is inviting Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata on 22nd July 2013 (Monday), 7.30pm to enter Vassa (on 23rd July) in SJBA. The program will include taking the 3 Refuges and observe the 5 Precepts, formal invitation to the Sangha Members to stay in SJBA for the 3-month Vassa (so that we can organise the Kathina), determination by the Sangha, offering of robes and requisites to the Sangha followed by sharing of merits. Members and devotees are invited to witness this Vassa Entry Ceremony (which also commemorate the First Sermon (Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta by the Buddha) and also to participate in the 5th Day Vassa Chanting on 27th July 2013, Saturday, 7.30pm, to commemorate the day the Buddha taught the Anattalakkhana Sutta to His first 5 disciples of the Buddha attained Arahantship after listening to this sermon.

3) Our Mandarin Puja Service will be from 11.30am to 12.30pm today (14th July) with a Dhamma Talk on “Metta” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Please invite your Mandarin speaking relatives and friends to join us. The gift of the Dhamma is the highest gift.

4) This morning’s Dhamma Talk will be given by Ven. Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janaka Bhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work.
