image00141) To-date SJBA have received donations of about RM 3.3 million for its Building Extension. The cost of construction of the extension block is RM5 million (not including GST and interior design works). We look forward for more help to raise the balance in order for us to successfully complete the construction of the new building.

We plan to have a grand fund raising dinner to raise as much as possible to make up the shortfall. The dinner is scheduled on 7 May 2016 at Restaurant Extra Supertanker @ the Club, Bandar Utama. The renowned Caring and Sharing Choir will be our guest performers at the dinner. Dato’ Leonard Tan will most likely give a 20 minutes cameo performance too.
The dinner tables will be priced at RM20,000, RM10,000, RM5,000 and RM3,000. We have also decided to acknowledge the donors if they donated RM1.28 million for the Dana Hall or Multipurpose Meditation Hall, and/or RM100,000 for the Dhamma or Senior Citizen Rooms, by having their names displayed at the respective halls or rooms. We plan for all these as a final push, if possible, to raise enough funds to build our building extension rather than to ask from our members, devotees, donors, supporters and benefactors again and again. We have only about 80 tables. Please book your table or tickets early so as not to miss the opportunity to partake and witness another historical event and success of SJBA. Your support in building this temple extension is an excellent dana of inmeasurable merits which, upon fruition, will bring you abundance of good blessings.

2) SJBA is organizing another Introduction to Buddhism course from 26 February to 15 April 2016. The course will run for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Dr. Chan Kah Yein and Datuk Charlie Chia. All are welcome. No pre-registration is required. 3) SJBA will be organising a Meditation Retreat, conducted by SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi as follows:

Date : 12th to 15th May 2016 (Thursday to Sunday)

Venue : Chin Swee Temple (Genting)

Meals : Vegetarian (Breakfast Rm6 and Lunch Rm12 per pax)

Lodging : Twin sharing Room (Rm108/Night, with attached bathroom and water heater)

Meditation Hall Usage Fee : Rm636 per day

Transportation : Bus

Yogis are required to take 9 precepts during the retreat. Yogis who are not able to take 9 precepts, kindly inform the organisers in advance and make your own arrangement for light dinner.

We are seeking a contribution of Rm292 per yogi to defray the running cost for meals, lodgings, transportation and fee for the usage of the meditation hall.

Registration is open from the 1st of February on the first come first serve basis. Confirmation of place is upon submission of Registration Form with Payment to Sis. Lily. Registration closed on the 15th of April.

4) The topic of this Sunday (31/1/16, 10am) Dhamma Talk is “The Eightfold Way: A Psychological Perpective” by Bro Billy Tan. Bro. Billy Tan is a Professional Trainer and Business Development Consultant who has trained countless corporate executives and business professionals in more than 20 countries over the past three decades. Bro. Billy is a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), as well as being certified by the International Association of Counselors and Therapists, USA, in Clinical Hypnotherapy. In recent years Bro. Billy has conducted several professional training programs for resident and visiting Monks at the Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields, in the areas of Emotional Intelligence, Communication, Professional Presentation, Public Relations, Community Services, Leadership, and Management. In sharing the Dhamma, Bro. Billy researches discoveries from the fields of Neuroscience and Psychology to present teachings of the Buddha from a scientific perspective

5) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (31/1/16, 10am) will be by SJBA Abbot, Venerable Nyanaramsi, at SJBA Sima Hall. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

3) The topic of this Sunday (17/1/16, 10am) Dhamma Talk is “The Four Noble Truth” by Bro Mui Han. Bro Mui Han has been active in Buddhism since his school days. He was a former President of St. John’s Institution Buddhist Society KL, former EDSG Director in Persatuan Buddhis UPM (PBUPM), former committee member of Nalanda Buddhist Society, former Committee Member of Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia (BMSM) Youth Section and former member of Aloka Foundation Management Committee.

Mui Han also co-founded a Buddhist youth group that was later formalized to be known as Dhammaduta Youth (D2Y). D2Y have been running annual year-end Buddhist camps for secondary school students since 1998 till today.

4) This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Five Aggregates” by Sis Tan Yee Yong. Sis Tan Yee Yong graduated with Bachelor of Science in Computer Sience and MBA. She obtained MA in Buddhist Studies from IBC, Thailand. She is now a Dhamma committee member of SJBA.

Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

The Speaker, Sis Low Mi Yen is a Clinical Psychologist & Mindfulness-based Therapist She is the Founder of MindfulSpa and the Vice-President of KL Buddhist Mental Health Association. She has been working with individuals, couples, families, workplaces & communities for more than 20 years, providing psychotherapy, psychological assessment, coaching, training, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) & mindfulness-based interventions. ·She is a regular speaker on NTV7 BELLA show and has been interviewed by various local newspapers, magazines & radio. ·She is a co-trainer for MINDFULGym a local Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for more than 4 years. · Under her PhD, she develops a localized mindful self-compassion program called Mindful-Spa to enhance emotional resiliency and self-care.

The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, assisted by Venerable Sayadaw Pyinnyarnanda and our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. Please maintain silence within the vicinity of the Vihara during the duration of the Retreat. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. 2) This year SJBA Educare Program in SJBA will be held on 6 December 2015 to provide poor students with school items to start the new school term. It is expected that about 500 to 600 needy students will receive the school items on 6 December 2015. Each student will receive a full set of school items which consists of school bags, shoes, books, stationary, etc. which costs about RM100.00. The amount may not be a lot but it is a simple yet significant gesture of ours to show our care and concern to poor students. We hope that through this simple but sincere gesture, the students are motivated to study better and achieve academic success and eventually success in life. image00141. The Intermediate Course on Buddhism running for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 6 November 2015. The course covers Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. On this Friday (30 Oct) the topic is “Living Harmoniously with Nature” by Datuk Charlie Chia. On next Friday (6 November), Datuk Charlie Chia will talk on “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health”. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.

2. This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on 8 November 2015 (Sunday). Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (7 November 2015) with Taking The Three Refuges Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

5. This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk (1/11/15, 10am) will be given by Ven. Mahacara who is residing in SJBA for the Vassa (Rains Retreat). During this 3-month period, Venerable Mahacara will be cultivating himself in SJBA Vihara as well as teaching devotees the Dhamma.

6.This Sunday’s Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (1/11/15at 11.30am) is on “Wise Effort” by Sis Wong Suh Chuen. Sis. Suh Chuen graduated with Bachelor of Science in Applied Science from TAR College and Masters in Technology (Environment Management) from University Malaya. She is an Environmental Consultant. She was the Dhammaduta Head of TAR College Buddhist Society and former Honorary Secretary of Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society (KMBS). Currently, Sis. Suh Chuen teaches Sunday Dhamma class for adults at KMBS.
