image00141) SJBA is celebrating the country’s 57th Merdeka Day next Sunday, 31st August 2014. The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 7.45am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2013. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2014. On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year. The Blessings will be conducted by the Venerable Sangha Members.

2) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk “The Importance of Practising Daily Meditation” by Sayalay Susila, on 30 Aug 2014, Saturday, 8.30pm to 10pm. Sayalay Susila, a Malaysian, was ordained in 1991. She has practiced meditation intensively, under the guidance of various famous meditation teachers like Sayadaw U Pandita, Pa Auk Sayadaw, etc. She has also learned the Abhidhamma, ancient discourses and the Pali language from Pa Auk Sayadaw. Sayadaw Susila travelled extensively to teach meditation, the Abhidhamma and Sutta expositions.

3) In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, SJBA is organizing a Mooncake Family Night on Saturday, 6th September 2014. It will be a fun-filled night to celebrate with your family, especially so if you have young children as SNOWBALL THE CLOWN is around to entertain you with magic show and ventriloquism with his puppets. And in line with SJBA’s effort in promoting a caring and compassionate community, we are inviting underprivileged children from Ti-Ratana Welfare Society to join us in our celebration. These 40 underprivileged children have provided us with a wish-list. So all members and devotees who want to fulfill their dream, please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181 / 56315299 for the items they have wished for. Last but not least, remember to bring your lantern along for the traditional lantern procession round the temple to end the night. DINNER WILL BE

4) SJBA is organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 19 September to 24 October 2014. The course will run for 6 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm and will be conducted by Uncle Vijaya, Bro Charlie Chia and Dr Chan Kah Yein. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Cindy at 03-56348181 for further details.

5) In conjunction with the 3-month Vassa, Venerable Dhammapala will be conducting a Pali Sutta learning and Chanting in Pali & English on Tuesdays (except 12 Aug and 16 Sep) until 7 October 2014, 8.30pm to 10.00pm. All are welcome.

6) The Metta Class in Mandarin conducted by Ven. Dhammapala will be on every Friday, 8pm to 10pm.

7) SJBA is hosting a Dhamma Talk in Mandarin by Bro Leong Kok Hing related to Buddhist Stamps, on 21 Sept, 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Bro Leong has previously served as the President and Secretary of YBAM for 16 years. He has held many portfolios in Buddhist societies such as the Chief Editor of Buddhist Digest, the Assistant Secretary of World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth, Fo Guang International Youth Director, Vice Principal of International Buddhist College and etc. At present, he is managing General Affairs of International Buddhist College and Phor Tay Chinese Secondary School in Penang. He was conferred with the Excellent Youth Award and Youth Leader Award from the Ministry of Youth. He has been collecting stamps which has Buddhist themes for 30 years. In the eighties, his stamps have been displayed in some major Buddhist exhibitions in Penang and Kuala Lumpur with “Buddhist Travel”as its theme. He was also invited for his solo in 1990, 1992 in Fo Guang Temple at Singapore and Taiwan.

8) SJBA is sponsoring Ven. Punnavisuddhi to study his Degree & Masters in Pali at a University in Sri Lanka, RM7,000 per year for 5 years for a total of

9) Subang Jaya Buddhist Association is co-organising with the Bodhinyana International Foundation, Australia and the Centre of Mindfulness Limited, Hong Kong, the 1st Buddhist Nuns’ Novitiate Programme in the Theravada Tradition on 7–16 November 2014, under the guidance of Bhikkhuni Hasapanna, Venerable Dhammapala with Ajahn Brahm as the Spiritual Director. This Program will be sponsored by SJBA and the Hong Kong Society of Dhamma Supporters but donations towards the costs of running this Novitiate Programme will be most appreciated. 10) Today’s (24/8/14, Sunday) Dhamma Talk in Mandarin (at 11.30am) is on “Meeting With the Dhamma” by Ven. Dhammapala. Ven. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and has presented a number of papers. He is currently the Spritual Director of Buddhistdoor. Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Centre of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association and Director of a few Buddhist-based organisations. 今天 (24/8/14, 11.30am) 的讲题是与佛法相会, 讲师是法护法师. 法师毕业于斯里兰卡的Kelaniya大学,专注于巴利文和佛教研究。法师也在香港大学获得了博士学位,也在香港大学当过讲师,并呈列了一些论文。他目前是 “Buddhistdoor” 佛门的精神理事。是香港大学, 佛学校友会中心的副主席。也是其他以佛教为基础的组织的理事主任

11) This morning’s (17/8/14, 10.00am) Dhamma Talk in English is on “Looking Deeper into the Kalama Sutta (Buddhist Charter of Free Inquiry) by Dr. Chan Kah Yein. Sis Kah Yein holds a PhD in Mathematics Education. She is the founder of AnimalCare, a charity which provides neutering and vaccination subsidies for street animals. To date, she has written 8 books for
free distribution. Kah Yein believes in embracing simplicity and traveling light in life.

2) SJBA is calling an EGM at our Main Shrine Hall on next Sunday, 13 April 2014, 9.30am to revoke some clauses of SJBA’s Rules Regulations. Please refer to the Notice of EGM or refer to the Notice Board for more information. All members are welcome. The Sunday Puja Service will be a short one before commencement of the EGM.

3) Buddha Puja in Mandarin (11.30am) will resume today (6 April 2014). The Dhamma Talk in Mandarin today (at 11.30am) is on “Faith” by Chew Yee Yean. Sis Chew Yee Yean graduated from UKM. She is now working as a Senior Biochemist at UMMC.

4) The Dhamma Talk in English this morning (6 April 2014) will be given by SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant in Malaysia before he was ordained in 1995 at the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar with Venerable Chanmyay Yeiktha Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa as his preceptor. He had also studied the Dhamma and meditation under Sayadaw U Indaka and other Sayadaws in Myanmar. Ven Nyanaramsi spent 9 vassas in Myanmar before he accepted an invitation from SJBA to come back to Malaysia in 2003 to teach the Dhamma and meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. Ven Nyanaramsi is now the Abbot of Subang Jaya Vihara He travels frequently to Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

To date, she has written eight books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all, for free distribution. With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

image00141) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on this Sunday, 23rd March 2014 to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi followed by Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

He was ordained as a Buddhist monk under Tan Chao Kun Phra Rasitaajahn Luang Poh Tong Bai Papassaro, Wat Na Luang, Udon Thani, Thailand in January 2007. After completion of his five year long junior monk training under the guidance of his preceptor, he studied with various other Ajahns in Thailand and Europe. Currently he is one of the vipassana teachers and interpreters in the Northern Insight Meditation Center, Wat Ram Poeng, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

5) This morning’s (23/2/14) Dhamma Talk in English (at 10.00am) is on “The Universal Sine Curve” by Bro Charlie Chia. Bro. Charlie Chia is a much sought after Dhamma who focuses on practical Buddhist daily living, mind development, main Buddhist doctrines and motivational & positive thinking. He has conducted many Buddhist Courses, training camps and retreats. He is credited with the formation of many Buddhist organisations such as Buddhist Missionary Society Youth Section, Kota Tinggi Buddhist Society, Metta Lodge Johor Bahru and Kuantan Buddhist Association. He was a former President of Bandar Utama Buddhist Society , University of Technology Malaysia Buddhist Society, Buddhist Missionary Society Youth Section, Kuantan Buddhist Association and former Honorary Secretary of Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia.

3) This morning’s (16/2/14) Dhamma Talk in English (at 10.00am) is given by Sayadaw U Rewata. Sayadaw U Rewata was born in 1955 in Thonse, Myanmar. He graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India, etc for missionary work, teaching Metta Bhavana, Vipassana Bhavana, Suttanta Recitations, etc. He served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon in 2004 to 2006, and also has been the Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in Subang Jaya Buddhist Association to support its Dhamma missionary work

image00141) SJBA is hosting a Musical Show on 16th November 2013 at the KL PAC, Sentul, to raise funds for our building extension. This delightful musical is produced by the famous Asia Musical Productions (the award-winning team of “Siddhartha The Musical” and “Princess Wen Cheng”) featuring some of the best talents in Malaysia’s arts and entertainment scene. Tickets are sold at RM120, RM180, RM250 and RM400. Sponsors of RM5,000 will be given a VVIP seat, a plaque and engraving of their names in the new building’s Donors Board. 2) SJBA is organising an Intermediate Course on Buddhism from 13 September to 18 October 2013. The course will cover Buddhist views on contemporary issues and Buddhist living. All are welcome. The topic this Friday (11/10/13) is “Perfect Mind for Perfect Health” by Bro Charlie Chia. (Note: Topic “No man is an Island” by Uncle Vijaya on 4/10/13).

3) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 27th October 2013. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season). The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2013) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits. On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

4) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2013 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, and SJBA Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He has served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

Ven. Nyanramsi was an accountant before he was ordained in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, Yangon with Chanmyay Sayadaw, Ven. U Jananakabhivamsa, as his preceptor. Ven. Nyanaramsi moved to Hmawbi branch in 1996 and continued his training under Chanmyay Myaing Sayadaw U Indaka (former abbot of Hmawbi Branch) and other resident Sayadaws. He spent 9 vassas in Myanmar. In late 2003, he accepted an invitation from SJBA to return to Malaysia to teach Dhamma and Satipatthana Meditation to Malaysian Buddhists. He is now the Chief Abbot of SJBA. He travels frequently to Thailand, Taiwan, Myanmar and Indonesia to conduct meditation retreats.

5) Today’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk at 11.30am (6/10/13) will be by Sis Yee Yean. The topic is “Buddhist Family”. Sis Yee Yean graduated from UKM, and now working as senior biochemist in UMMC. 2) As another community service, SJBA will jointly organize with the Jawatankuasa Penduduk Subang Jaya-MPSJ Zon 1 to provide 1-day Traditional Chinese Medicine Service to the public FOC on 14thSeptember 2013, at the SS15 MPSJ Multi-purpose Hall from 9am to 3pm. Experienced Chinese Physicians qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment will give treatment to those with certain sicknesses and bodily ache/pain, including diagnosis, acupuncture or other treatment, and medicine. Members, devotees and members of the public are invited to come for this day of FOC Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment, which will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis up to a maximum of 80 patients only. Light refreshment / lunch will be provided for patients and helpers.

3) SJBA is organizing a Family Night of Joy and Fellowship on 14th September 2013 in conjunction with the Lantern Festival, to promote fellowship amongst our devotees. Activities include lantern procession round the temple playground and performances. Children from orphanages will be invited to join the fun. Members and devotees will get the opportunity to perform Dana by fulfilling the wishes of these underprivileged children. This is a Family Night, so please bring along your family and friends as well to participate in all the fun/joy activities planned for you. Dinner will be served at 7.30pm. You may also bring your food to share with others.

4) This year’s Annual Vipassana Meditation Retreat will be held at SJBA from 6th December 2012 to 15th December 2013. The Retreat will be conducted by Venerable Sayadaw U Sobhita and Sayadaw U Rewata from Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre.

Sayadaw U Sobhita has taught meditation in many places including the well-known Mahasi Meditation Centre in Burma. He has been an Assistant to the Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw (Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa) since 1988. He travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia frequently to conduct meditation retreats.

Sayadaw U Rewata graduated in 1980 with Bachelor of Science at the Rangoon University. He was ordained in 1983. He followed Pariyatti and Patipatti under the guidance of Most Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. He has travelled widely to many countries like Japan, USA, Canada, India for missionary works and teaching meditation. He has served as the Abbot in Hmawbi, Yangon and Abbot of the Satipatthana Vipassana Association, Springfield, USA. Sayadaw U Rewata is currently in SJBA to support its Dhamma missionary work.

5) Today’s Mandarin Dhamma Talk at 11.30am (8/9/13) will be by Sis Yee Yean. The topic is “Respect for Parents”.

6) This morning’s Dhamma Talk is on “Perfecting Patience” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. Bro. Siang Chye graduated from Kent Institute, UK and with a Master degree from Massey University, New Zealand. He was a former Chairman of the Buddhist Missionary Youth Section and also the parent body, BMSM for one session. He is a striving meditator and has practised under several prominent meditation teachers locally and in New Zealand. Bro. Siang Chye is currently the Chairman of the Dhamma Committee of SJBA.

1) As another community service for our members and devotees with SJBA arranging with 2 experienced Chinese Physicians qualified in Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment to give treatment to those with certain sicknesses and bodily ache/pain, every Saturday, 9am to 12pm, at SJBA. The fees are chargeable at RM30.00 which include the diagnosis, acupuncture or other treatment, and medicine. Those who cannot afford the fees can apply for Humanitarian Aid at SJBA Office.

2) The Introduction to Buddhism course that is ongoing for 8 consecutive Fridays from 8.30pm to 10.00pm will end on 19 April 2013. On this coming Friday (5 April 2013) the topic is “Noble Eightfold Path” by by Uncle Vijaya. All are welcome. Please contact Sis Lily at 03-56348181 for further details.

3) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on next Sunday, 7th April 2013, 8am to 11am, to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one. It is the duty of relatives to perform these acts of merits for the departed ones. The Pattidana will start with the offering of flowers and lights at 8am, Metta Recitation, Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by Bhante Nyanaramsi, Dedication of Merits to Departed Ones.

4) SJBA is organising an Introduction to Meditation Course conducted by our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi from 26 May to 1 Jun, 8.30pm to 10.30pm (first day orientation followed by 6 lessons) followed by a short Meditation Retreat from 1 Jun to 4 Jun. Ven. Nyanaramsi was an accountant before he was ordained as Bhikkhu in 1995 at Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Centre, practicing under Sayadaw U Janakabhivamsa for a total of 9 years. Ven. Nyanaramsi was giving various support for foreign meditators in the Centre before accepting Subang Jaya Buddhist Association’s invitation to come back in 2003 to teach the Malaysian Buddhists. He travels frequently to other countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China, etc to teach meditation. If you wish to join in the Retreat as a yogi, helper or sponsor, please inform Sis. Huat Chye is a much sought after Dhamma Speaker. He has a Master Degree in Socio Psychology. He was member of the Way Farers and is known for writing and composing a number Buddhist hymns. He is a Founder Member and current Advisor of the Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society. He has also presented a number of papers at Buddhist conferences, etc. Bro. Huat Chye is the Principal Consultant of THC Consultancy Sdn Bhd.
